Her solutions to the struggling poor and middle class is to give the rich tax breaks.

It's not like that at all. It's just Truss is so out of her depth as Prime Minister. She's basically a child putting on her best Thatcher impression. She's totally lacking in charisma.

The closest thing to Trump and his cult would be electing Boris Johnson but he's gone (for now).

So why would they put her in a position of power? I'm kind of educating myself on the election process in the UK, and it seems like being conservatives have control over the parliment, they vote on and decide who is taking over.

It also looks like you all have much younger potential candidates, Kemi Badenoch looks like she's in her 30s.

They had the dregs of the dregs to choose from after Boris got rid of anyone with a shed of decency or competence. Her rivals were either more incompetent or racked with scandals of their own.

The tories are in power, so whoever leads them is the PM.

Only people who pay to be Tory members get to vote on their leader, so it means a tiny percentage of the country has a role on who leads us.

Unlike the US, you don't vote for a prime minister (or President). You vote for someone to represent your constituency in Parliament. The leader of the party with the most seats in Parliament will go to the Queen and be asked to form a government. This is why when one PM stands down, its up to the party to pick their new leader (and new PM by extension). You don't need to call a general election.

The Parliamentary Conservatives ran a leadership contest and narrowed it down to two candidates. Conservative party members then vote on these two. The reason Truss won was because the right wing press see her as a way to carry on a the Boris Legacy - and her rival wasn't white.

The difference is the US votes for a president

The UK votes for their Member of Parliament (MP) IN their constituency. Think like the Senate

Then the party with the most MPs just picks a leader without public intervention

So imagine if Dems had the Senate like they do now, they just picked the president rather than having an election for it.

Thats one of the reasons why conservatives are so much worse in the UK, Boris dominated the election and had an 80 seat majority

Trump is and was always notoriously unpopular among most Americans

Truss has lost a lot of that support because she's female

To clarify this point, since it reads like they choose a leader after the election, the leaders of the parties are chosen before the election in most cases so you go to the polls knowing who will be PM if each party wins. In fact, at least here in Canada, a lot of people vote based on the leader instead of the party. The only times a leader isnt in place is if an election is called while one of the parties is looking for a new leader.

Conservatives don't care too much about the gender of their leader. Their most successful and popular leader in recent times was Thatcher after all. Theresa May would have lasted longer if not for Boris Johnson and Brexit.

As long as they're rich, nasty and promise tax cuts for the rich they're happy.

We're up to 3 female Prime Ministers who were all Conservative. Every Tory has wet dreams about the Thatcher years. Regardless of what individual MPs do in the commons, the party membership chose Truss over Sunak.

But sure, ignore that an overwhelming 80 seat majority including flipping labour seats turned into a 16 point labour lead and tory seats flipping Labour the moment the chick and the brown guy rose through the ranks and Boris was on the out.

Yeah. All they care about is making life easier for the rich. That overrides their disdain for non whites, foreigners, women and even immigrants.

They'd happily vote for an Indian, disabled, trans person if they promised to give the rich tax cuts and deal with benefit scroungers and immigrants.

Don't take anything UR says seriously. I don't know a single brit here who doesn't despise the Tories. No one thinks the corruption will end, no matter what the Tories claim and the BBC happily scream out.

There's a reason the Tories are utterly tanking in voting polls and Labour are slaughtering them. The Tories are on a path to their destruction and are refusing to change course.

My point was that the Tories don't care who leads them as long as they're toeing the party line and that's why they've elected 3 women. I'm not denying that the party has a sexism problem but if it truly was as big an issue as you make it out to be, Sunak would be PM right now. Truss is seen as a safe pair of hands by the Johnson loyalists, Sunak knifed Boris in the back.

They have an outright majority so the only reason they have to call a snap election would be if they think they can strengthen their position.

Which means there's zero chance of it happening.
