every calorie calculator online says i can eat 2200 calories to maintain my weight. i eat that, i gain. so i said fuck it and did 1500.

been the same weight for a month, weighing weekly.

i know im not the most active person, but this seems ridiculous. what am i supposed to do? 1200? everything i read says thats unhealthy.

i dont have time to exercise because i work and have kids.

Just lower your calories until you start losing weight. Odds are that your intake estimates are incorrect. The back of boxes aren't as accurate as they should be. Weigh stuff for a better estimations

Are you sure you are eating 1500 a day? Unless using exact prepacked food, it is easy to mess up estimations with cooking. Even ordering food where it lists the calories, they often serve more than they state.

You might need to exercise some, as your metabolism is shit most likely. Everyone can find some time, either at 6am or 10pm if needs me. If serious about losing weight, work with your partner to get 30 minutes a day to do this.

The issue is likely your metabolism. You said that every online thing you've seen says your maintenance is 2200, but that may not be the case. I dunno how active you are, but you likely need to be more active

Use time with son to exercise. Find an activity you can both do together that will work up a little sweat.

Once again, work with your partner. There should be time in there. And why are you taking care of your son at 4am? Also weekends.

There IS time.

You most likely are somehow miscalculating the calories. I assume no activity can affect the maintenance amount, but I doubt it can half it. Do you do any cheat days? If you're chowing down one day per week, that could kill all progress you've made.

Many professional athletes eat in excess of 10,000 cal per day.

Michael Phelps was on this kind of diet when he was training for the Olympics.

If you eat 1500 cal per day, but you only burn 1500 cal per day then you arent going to gain or lose any weight.

Then you need marital help. I'm serious.

I was married, with daughters (eventually 4), worked full time, cooked half the dinners, did chores, played with my kids, and still found time to exercise. And I had an overly belittling wife (ex now). If you can't find time or even discuss this, then you either have horrible time management and/or an even worse marriage than I did.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Thats because most people burn 2,000 calories in a day.

Its an average number, which means approx.:
  • 50% of people burn more than 2,000 calories per day and
  • 50% of people burn less than 2,000 calories per day.

If you maintain your weight at 1,500 calories per day then thats likely what your daily amount burned is as well.

Theres a reason why Michael Phelps had to eat 10,000 calories per day.

If he only ate 2,000 calories than he wouldnt have nearly enough energy to complete his training regiment and he would likely die of starvation or exhaustion.

Someone who lives a very sedentary lifestyle (video games, watching TV, never going to the gym or doing physical activity) can feasibly survive with just 1,500 calories.

Actually dieting is really, really hard. You'd be better off literally using your son to exercise by either playing with him, or running around while holding him or something.

Are you counting things like drinks, down to even like, sugar in tea? Carbs, fats, sugars, etc? What kind of food are you eating? Is it all processed garbage? How often is your cheat day? Metabolism is a tricky thing. If you know your cheat day is coming up you might literally raise your Metabolism by way of knowing and expecting to eat more that one or multiple day/s
