Your Turn to Die is the best I know or.

Process of Elimination is a good title for a Mafia-esque murder mystery.

Raging Loop has some good DR energy sometimes but it's pure VN.

I think the oversaturated feel of DR likes is actually because of their rising overabundance in manga and anime rather than games.

PW is once every few years at this point, zero escape and danganronpa did 3 games and then ended. you've got a couple similar things with like Ghost Trick, Somnium, and... idk i can't even think of any others. i don't exactly feel this is a "there's just too many of them i'm tired of it" genre. It's like, the opposite, if you like this genre you just have to take what you get which is usually 1 game every year or two lol

depending on what specific criteria you're using (I was thinking "weeb games focusing on multiple murders") I've got:

All the Phoenix Wrights

All the 999 Zero Escape Whatevers
Kodaka has had one or two similar projects since then, no?
Your Turn To Die
Umineko and Higurashi and probably more/all of Ryuukishi's stuff

At least one or two or three steam games I've seen (non-zero chance I just keep looking at Raging Loop every few months)

There's also Aviary Attorney and 2064 Read Only Memories if you want non-weeb mystery VNs, and G-Senjou if you want non-murder (IIRC) weeb mystery VN.

I mean yeah that's not a ton, sure, it just seems like an odd number of similar-ish concepts for what in my mind is a pretty narrow niche. I wouldn't even say I'm personally tired of them, just that the novelty wore off pretty quick.

I do think I'm also lumping in some non-video game stuff too, yeah. There's like Tragedy Looper and Milgram and Battle Royale et al and fifty million DR fanprojects that shouldn't count but kinda do in my head.

This is the first I've heard of Your Turn to Die.

I don't really count Phoenix Wright as being the same as Dangan Ronpa. The only things they really have in common is that they're a series of murder mysteries with some of the time spent in the courtroom. I guess you also pick people's words apart. But the circumstances for the cast and such are so vastly different. I get that they're closer to each other than they are to mostly anything else, but the differences are pretty pronounced.

I assumed someone would have mentioned World's End Club by now, though. I dunno what it's actually about, but it was compared to DR when I first heard about it.

From what I recall the beginning of the trailer makes it look like it, but it's a fakeout and the game turns into something else.

i don't consider umineko the same because it has no gameplay and the style of solving mysteries is quite different. same for raging loop.

There was the Akudama Drive anime which is good, and the Tribe Nine anime which is bad.

His next game is Enigma Archives which will be his first major release since leaving DR.

That's the afformentioned World's End Club, it's not really that, and it's more of an indie thing.

Had the game being a fakeout been a secret until after release it could have been interesting, but they spoil it in the first trailer.

Sign me up.

And Raging Loop is fun.

I played Aviary Attorney before any Ace Attorney games. I was modestly entertained by it. One thing it does that AA does not is multiple endings.

Anyway, since we're talking about Danganronpa and stuff here, I probably ought to mention that like a year ago, Anagram was writing a fanfic that he was posting to AO3, and I was also writing one that I kept to myself. I was too chicken to start uploading it until it was done, which was dumb, but more recently I learned of crossover fanfics using Genshin Impact characters (and these no doubt exist for other fandoms) and decided to write one of my own. I was under the impression they YTTD was a Homestuck-like.

YTTD is made by one person, and it shows. It's art is very... "doujin", is the right word, I think. But it's a very good story if you're willing to overlook that.

i played the first hour of it and it was definitely a zeroescape-like

i kinda got used to the art even in that short of a time. i'm looking forward to it being done

Definitely going to preorder the Switch version when its available, I need to be able to play games like that away from my tv, and I have a lot of time laying on the floor while the kids go to sleep.

yeah. video games should have catchy or clever names.

it's like calling a platformer "Advancing Forward" or calling a puzzle game "Solution Finder" or calling a fighting game "Trading Blows"

I'm seeing this is sub only unfortunately which is very dissapointing. Between this and the Trails game releasing this month, I'd rather these games just come out later.

I don't know who's being sarcastic and who isn't, but I like the name Process of Elimination because of the double meaning.
