Monster will become my New Year's Resolution then.

Sonic Frontiers beated. The last island was really good. It just trusted you knew what you were doing at that point, so it felt like I had a lot of freedom. Last boss was a little weird, but eh, Sonic last bosses tend to be pretty hit or miss.

I do want to go back and get the stuff I missed though, so I'm not done with the game just yet. I also heard there's some free DLC coming, so I'll be keeping an eye on that.

i watched some of monster during the mumei hype cycle. lost interest after awhile but my brother (who watched the whole thing) told me i "stopped right before it started getting REALLY good."

Hyouka is one of those anime that lives rent-free in my head, and every now and then I just feel the need to watch it again. I've gotten my wife watching it along with me, and she's been enjoying it, too. I wish they would adapt the stories that came out after the anime released, but I know that'll never happen, sadly.

It was actually on Youtube until pretty recently! I was rewatching it back in maybe April or something there and it finally got taken down like 50 or so episodes into my rewatch.

i'm a little sad i never got that into monster. it seemed way too overdramatic and i wasn't big on its less cartoonish art style. still had some great moments though, and like two characters i wound up enjoying a ton.

Hmm, Utawarerumono devs just got bought by another publisher, assumably because Monochrome Mobius lost a lot of money? Wonder if the purchase is good or bad for them. Maybe they'll be sentenced to just churning out new ports of their old games or something.

(I saw a few hands where they had impossible hands like this and as far as I can tell the CPU is able to draw the community cards into their hand... and then play them with the community cards themselves to make hands which is obviously not something it should be able to do. Might be more to it because if that was all I think it'd happen more often than it seems to but maybe not idk)

Definitely the best looking FFXVI trailer so far

I started playing Memories of Celceta and this just feels like the worst Falcom game so far. Now I'm far enough that I have all 6 party members and the story is starting to pick up at least. But the controls, the enemies, the camera, the zones, it all feels pretty messy. It gets a bit better when you get into refinement to leech enemies and cc all the time, but it's a tedious process tbh.

And uh Adol seems kinda mean and unpleasant? The whole memory thing doesn't quite justify it but we'll see.

It's maybe the worst Falcom game I've played. Not a fan of 3 either tho

And Platinum get for Sonic Frontiers! Nothing too difficult here. The only thing really grindy is doing 50 Phantom Rush combos, but there's a really easy way to cheese that one, so even that's not too bad.

Housing update: found a guy for one of the rooms who wanted to move in mid-January. I asked the departing roommate for that room, who was still looking for a place, if he wanted to continue to rent his room for any portion of January, and he said that he did until the 15th. I confirm with him that I'm okay to tell the new guy that he only has to pay from the 16th onward.

Then an hour ago, my exiting roommate tells me that he's actually going to be moving out on the 1st, and will not pay for the 1st-15th even if the new guy refuses, potentially leaving me to either eat $550 on an empty room that isn't even mine or lose the new roommate (haven't heard back from him yet).

I finished the Prologue of Three Hopes. Well, that certainly escalated at a faster pace than Three Houses! Looks like we're not doing any of the school days stuff this time around.

It certainly makes replays for the other routes way less dull!

One of the podcasts I listen to has an ad for women's lingerie (as a Christmas gift ifra for guys, for the record), and it's read by Para-Medic's voice actress. It's kinda surreal every time I hear it.

Okay, I think my housing situation is sorted out (pending getting the signed paperwork from one guy). I did have to pay a bit over $300 due to my current roommate reneging on his prior commitment, though I'm more pissed off about it out of principle than due to losing the actual money.

Hopefully there are no more complications in the process.

Roommate situation has been finalized. I had one final headache where my bad departing roommate (the same one who reneged on Jan 1-15 rent) tried to abandon a bedframe in the room and then initially refused to return the keys before getting his security deposit (which I was withholding until he got rid of the bed), but he ended up backing down. Hopefully I'll get a job before either of the new roommates move out and not have to deal with this stuff ever again!

Vaan's steal rate is better than Zidane's so he's already off to a good start there

How has the job search been going? I don't hear much good about tech industry jobs these days but I'm not sure how much if affects your specific field.

I've basically been procrastinating since I graduated; I haven't actually applied anywhere yet. Basically all of the big tech companies have implemented hiring freezes now which is really annoying, since my first choice would be to get a quantum computing job at one of those. I'm planning to start actually applying to places in January.

That sounds like how I handled job hunting my first time. For me, I absolutely hated it. And yeah, those hiring freezes were what I was thinking of. Like, I was job hunting during the 2009 tech recession and it was kinda miserable so good luck!

Yeah I loathe applying for things too, and unlike with college/grad school there's not just a clear set of steps to follow which always amps up my procrastination.
