should it be a new cartoon? Or a movie? And should the movie be animated or live action? And should they do a remake like Ducktales? Or maybe do a sequel that directly continues the story of the old cartoon

I've been sad for years that Gargoyles ended. I believe it had potential to be a massive franchise. The world they set up was full of promise. Disney never should have let it die

Its both getting a new comic written by Greg Weisman. Which will continue where the last comic he wrote ended. Hopefully this lasts longer.

As for if it returns, a direct continuation would be best.

Agreed there's so much they can still explore, even leaving aside the Gargoyle hate group plotline..

All I know is, if they bring it back, they better bring Greg Weisman back on the project too.
This condition also applies for if the Spectacular Spider-Man is ever brought back from the dead.

No one is immediately springing to mind as an obvious choice. I did think of Amber Midthunder, but she seems kind of young?

Give it the Hunter x Hunter 2011 treatment and continue where it left off when it gets to that point. A very solid show.

Lexington being gay is woke trash. It was just ass pulled a few years ago. There is absolutely nothing in the cartoon to even hint at him being gay and in fact there is plenty to indicate he is not. If they want a gay gargoyle then they should just make a new character since obviously they will be bringing new gargoyles in, especially with Ed Asner having died.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

people say stuff like this when the reason why minority (race, sexual identity, etc.) being reflected in characters was used for the same reason back then as it is now - better representation.

and when people complain about wokeness/agendas conveniently ignore the rest of a piece of work, and focus only on the portrayal of some characters.

Yes but that agenda does exist today which is why if the show was released unchanged today it would be seen as woke. Besides if it was released for the first time today Greg Weisman would have written Lexington as openly gay like he's suppose to.

Yeah the show would be seen as woke.

The people making cartoons being liberal and progressive has not changed. All that has changed is that they are allowed to make shows with the characters they want. There is less pushback agianst them what. Greg Weisman is open about what he would have done in the Nineties if given the freedom to do do.

This is why I roll my eyes when people claim that shows were better before they were "woke and progressive." They are praising censorship.

The comic book fans would probably flip shit over that. Like, how did the heroes that reside in New York City not know of these creatures?

But, considering that the only reason Gargoyles fans have any extra content at all is because of comic books, maybe we can embrace this, lol.

I read the 2006 Gargoyles comic book series a few years back, did anyone else read them? I remember the artstyle was pretty similar to the show (which is a big reason why I would read any comic book) and that it featured Goliath and Elisa actually kissing and discussing their relationship possibility.

Absolutely, speaking as someone not typically into comic books, just ones in-universe of the cartoons I watch.

If I recall correctly it was referred to as "the real season 3" by the creator when Disney went ahead and made the third season with the weaker animation and much weaker writing (I still liked it because I like Gargoyles anything)

I had seen a lot of BTAS already by the time I started watching Gargoyles so the reformed villain archetype wasn't as new to me as the "master planner"/"true neutral" archetype demonstrated so well by Zanatos

I'm currently watching it on Disney+.
I'm around when they meet the new gargoyles from the eggs, and Elisa comments about Angela's resemblance to Demona, but different coloring (which matches Goliath's).

like the other poster said, "the show, don't tell" was based off of censorship, and creators would have liked to be more direct, given the chance.

plus, the so-called "emasculation" you're talking about often happened back then, to show women were as capable as men.

what series now "hammers you over the head" with that?

and it's not just censorship that kept people from creating the storylines they wanted, but also the representation that they wanted, the characters that they wanted, and so on.

The only people who are for toxic masculinity are people who have no idea what it is people are criticizing

Toxic masculinity is when a man only allows himself to express any emotion other than anger and won't allow himself to ever be vulnerable so simple acts like genuinely bonding with your child are avoided because toxic masculinity won't allow a man to show any vulnerability
Or trying to tough illness out instead of going to a doctor and letting it get worse

The point of toxic masculinity criticism isn't to say masculinity is bad
But rather trying to fit into a narrow concept of masculinity that no man truly fits into not only hurts men themselves but everyone around them as well
