Xenosaga 2 is pretty much exactly like ff 8, there's only one way to play the weird mechanics of the battle system but once you know that strategy the rest of the game is relatively smooth sailing

You just need to know how to juggle enemies and then attack, bearing in mind that ironically momo is the strongest attacker in the game this time around (well her and kosmos of course)

Also, there's a section of the game where you solo as shion that's a great opportunity opportunity for level grinding which is your one chance in the game to jump up a few levels quickly

Yeah I'd say if you understand the general gist, it's actually kind of a cool system. It's been ages for me now, but I do remember thinking it was great, but a lot of the designs around the battle system ruined it for me.

But yes, the actual way to truly beat XS2 is to grind with Shion when you're solo. Literally that way is so much better than every other way to play the game, that I feel like most people who struggled through XS2 know about this.

Also if you don't do that like I haven't, you either grind for the next 3 hrs, or you simply just... avoid every enemy encounter (the last dungeon mobs are somehow significantly harder than the last boss. I literally could not win a single fight in the last half of that entire long ass dungeon), and you dash to the last boss. It's difficult to beat him so underleveled, but it's actually doable, as I'm a living proof of it. I didn't grind much or get the secret stuff I think? I remember it really came down to the wire, and understanding the system mostly helped

I can't believe how much I hated it.

I loved xenogears. I got xenosaga ep I when it came out. Beat it. Got ep II when it came out and I was shocked. I got to around half way through and the regular battles took to much effort, I was like nope. Then I regrettably skipped ep III.

I used Shion, Ziggy, and Momo in part one. Used the same party in two and felt like it was impossible.
