Finished up the second half of the episode today. Man, did I choose the wrong episode to stop watching live! Crazy freakin' episode. Orym biting it brought tears to my eyes. Then Fearne was just devastating. And potentially Laudna. Poor sweet Laudna.

Of course this is DND and dying doesn't always mean death.

And then there's Imogen! Love the full leaning into Dark Phoenix vibes, I love that kind of shit.

Matt was so laughy and giggly the whole show. He knows none of them are gone.

We used to have empires ruled by emperors. There used to be kingdoms lead by kings. Now all we got are countries.

I was a little annoyed because I clicked a page on r/criticalrole and got spoiled, but that was on me.

I think it's interesting and I'll have to see how it goes, but I hope none of them properly bite it. The cast in general needs be a little more forward about fighting bad guys. I don't blame them for running to start, but they probably should have realized it was a bad idea when she showed how incredibly mobile she was.

Then again, they probably would have tried fighting it out if she hadn't oneshot their barbarian.

I could see that being the case. Some of his tweets after the episode make me think otherwise, but you never know.

I did something similar, I saw that someone died but didn't know who. Or to the extent.

Seeing a few gripes that Matt made it a no win scenario. If they concentrated on fighting her she probably still would've put just as many people down. And if they all fled when they had the chance, I see just as many or more dead or dying. Which in theory I have no problem with. They knew how powerful Otohan was. A living legend.

So idk how to feel honestly lol. If literally 3 PCs die it just seems like it could be difficult to go from there.

It was brutal lmao. On the first turn of initiative, like Pegusus said, the barbarian was oneshot. Didn't get to rage. And as people were dropping like flies, they'd get revived only to immediately be put back down. No Mercy Mercer!

Nah, that's baloney. She was "looking rough" even with most of the party dealing no/incidental damage to her. Add in the potential of NPC help from the bounty hunter who had previously shown to have multi attack protection? Would've been a standard fight. It was definitely winnable, they were just understandably spooked when Ashton went down and she also rolled really well.

I was going to suggest Dimension 20, but then you asked for less comedy lol.

It isn't assuredly an ass pull since they have access to a minimum of two Revivify spells with a possible third one.

Nothing wacky happened if that's what you're asking. They revived Fearne and Orym, but they were out of spell slots and/or diamonds, so Laudna stayed dead.

It's weird how much of the CR fanbase absolutely detests that the cast uses baseline resurrection spells lol. Death just isn't that big of a deal in D&D past a certain level. Matt's ritual homebrew makes it way more threatening than normal D&D.
