i hope star ocean can go back to being amazing like 1/2/3. aside from legend of heroes and arc the lad (1-3) it is my favorite series (well the first two are)

Still mad they didn't localize the HD version of Star Ocean 2 on PS4, they kept it Japan only

I'm surprised the main character's name isn't Laser or something like that.

Oh I missed the trailer somehow.

God the aesthetic is SOOOOOO hideous. All these characters are nightmare inducing.

Nothing new for 3D SO but you'd think someone would have told them by now. And the actual graphical fidelity and models and animation are fine so it's so much more depressing that if they stopped trying to do this real face with anime designs stuff and just went full anime it would be fine.

If this was literally the same trailer but the models where all Tales of Arise style character models it would be SIGNIFICANTLY better, even if the designs still sucked.

They actually hit a pretty good middle ground on the graphics with SO5. Not sure why they swung back to the SO4 style.

Especially because the 2D art for the characters in this one is actually pretty good.

I decide to boot up SO3 again on a whim and I had completey forgotten that the character designs in this game were ALSO hideous. I for some reason remember that being one of the few things this game did OK, but I'm looking at Peppita's face here and gooooooolly.

I've been wondering which game would finally end the streak of 60FPS games on the PS5. Would it be the first next gen Ubisoft game? Would it be Control 2, going all out? Would it be Naughty Dog's next cinematic masterpiece, sacrificing all in the name of ultrarealism? Of course not. Star Ocean 6 is the only game the PS5 can't handle.

I assume he's playing on PS4 but I'll have to wait and see what others say

In Prioritize Image mode on PS5 it runs at what feels like a locked 20. I don't even want to imagine what the PS4 version looks like. Seems to be running OK in framerate mode....for now.

The navigation...is so wierd...like, getting a feel for the scale...am I supposed to be exploring or not? It's paying the generic high urgency music on a loop so I assume I should just be ignoring all this empty space and dashing forward?

The environment is so bland it's hard to even tell where I'm going.

Considering the ability to point and fly towards any direction, sure are a lot of invisible platforms in low clearly visible areas with no discernable reason not to be walkable.

Not surprised that a Tri-Ace game is the one that broke the streak.

Entered the first big open field area which is the first decent looking environment in the game that doesn't give the impression of being an elaborate RPG Maker title.

Unfortunately this was at the cost of a hitchy inconsistent 30 FPS or below with tons of pop-in as you run through it...in PS5 Framerate Mode.

When I finished I said outloud to myself, alone, "Ughhhhh my God" and rubbed my face in my hand.

I went in actually desperate for it to be good and praying for a good new JRPG to buy, but still keeping my expectations rock bottom, and still....it failed to meet them.

The good:

GREAT skyboxes.
Didn't change the classic SO sound effects
Dualsense vibration is good

That's the end of the list.

This is a miserable product. The combat does feel like there could be something there but it's mostly just a repetitive clusterfuck. The environments are so bland and monocolor that it even effects your ability to keep track of stuff in battle because the fights take place in the field.

The characters and this dialogue are absolutely dreadful. I can't imagine anything good will come of the story.

I am honestly in awe that they can keep one upping themselves in dissappintment with every release. I truly regret the last two hours of my life and it was not worth experiencing first hand.

I also hated this demo lol. I felt there was something there but it never clicked,

I would barely call that an RPG, too.

I watched like 3 minutes of YT of the demo and realized this shit ain't for me, bruv.

I mean by comparison the hour I put into Valkyrie Elysium looks like a mastahpiece.

Well, maybe I can use the month I was gonna spend on this playing Live a Live instead.

I possibly made a mistake and actually downloaded this. 30 mins in so far. Don't care about story because lol it's Star Ocean. But the combat is....I dunno man. Not super duper enjoying it right now.

The framerate is bad, font is weirdly tiny. Plot's whatever, setting's cool, characters are fine, combat's great.

Played more. On my way to the village. After boss battle glitched straight into the pod with no way out . Reloaded, didn't autosave after boss so did it again and faster, jumped off a cliff....and kept falling. Was able to get outta that animation but isn't this thing due out in a month? Ugh stopping tonight will finish the rest tomorrow.

I'm not sure how anyone can say the characters are fine. Maybe I should have played in Japanese?

I dunno, maybe. I did.

Full thing finished combat got better but UI sucks. Why is it so clunky? Bad game again. Hope the plat is another 500 hours for SHINE.
