I haven't played the first one, but SA2 is good. The mech stages aren't nearly as good as the Sonic/Shadow stages, but they're generally decent. Treasure hunting can be pretty annoying, mostly because of how the radar works (only keying to one shard at a time) and some of the gimmicks, but usually it's chill.
Plus...the soundtrack is just banger after banger, and every character has their own vibe. And the Sonic and Shadow stages are mostly great.

Froggy levels honest aren't that bad. The only one that takes any amount of time is the ice level and that's only because you have to platform for a bit.

You can clear Big's entire story in like 30 minutes.

I don't know where people got the idea that the fishing segments were some unforgivable torture gauntlet. They're lighthearted, easy, and quick. It feels like the shortest campaign, honestly.

Froggy levels are hot garbage. The fishing controls are poorly explained and don't make sense anyway. The line will break or just lose the fish/frog without warning or reason. Sometimes the fish just won't get any closer for minutes at a time no matter what you do.

It's fine to prefer SA1 over SA2, but it isn't fine to pretend anything in 2 is as bad as fishing in 1.

....Are y'all remembering to press Down on the analog stick when a fish/froggy bites the hook? You have to do that. After that, you make sure you're not reeling while the fish is struggling...you wait for the line to go slack, then you reel.

It's basic fishing game rules.

SA2 is the same kind of jank as EDF. You can tell it isnt a good game but its still a fun game.

Also, it isnt a high bar, but, even 20 years later, SA2 is the most functional 3D Sonic has ever been.

I've definitely had Froggy on the hook, reeling him in, and then suddenly I'm just standing there at the edge of the water outside of fishing mode with zero fanfare. Also from what I recall, when you've cast, you can move the lure by moving the control stick in the opposite direction for some reason? And to get something on the hook you hafta press like A and down when they're nibbling or some weird combo like that. Also I think the camera wasn't very cooperative after casting, but I'm not super sure. Also also this was the GameCube port, so maybe the original didn't have all of these issues.

I've played both, and neither has given me any trouble whatsoever. I just don't know what to tell you. It's super easy.

If you just cast the lure so the white circle is vaguely close to Froggy he'll (she'll?) almost always bite it without any extra work on your part. Only time I've had lines snap on me is when there was some weird collision between the line and level geometry. >___>

Weird. I always found it super tedious and it's why I didn't start more fresh playthroughs of the game lol.

TBH you should play the Steam version which has mods that fix the issues of the SADX remake

A lot of the time if the game decides you arent close enough to the water it wont count froggy as reeled in. Thats why its usually easier to use the belt upgrade when you can (fuck the ice level).

That said, Bigs story sucks because its boring and waaaaaaaay too easy. Pull in Froggy a few times and cast once or twice on the final boss. The end.

Makes it feel like a waste of time and especially makes the extra emblems feel tedious.

I never had major issues with Big's fishing. It's interesting to see how many people did.
