Watching now and this movie would have been quickly ended if

In the scene where they they get their car keys back, the had just gone on the attack and killed all the kids then and there. I dont understand how the dog got stabbed it happened so fast. But he should have taken out at least 1 kid

The Bluetooth 999 phone call scene

Wouldn't even a partial call be in the record and cause cops to investigate? I am pretty sure it works like that in 911 American calls

I was watching this morning and stopped. Just finished finally

She should have killed one adult with that razer at least in the ending. Anyway, they probably all get found out eventually. Something like that would be looked into by the cops. All those adults are headed for prison. This would be a major news story and a true crime sensation

They are the product of their parents. The scene with the waitress in the restaurant made me realize every single person in that village is a piece of shit

That sounds familiar. Is that the ending where the woman escapes the kids that have been torturing her and she finds a bunch of people to help her, but they end up being the parents of the kids and kill her in the end?

I haven't actually seen it but I think I read about the ending years ago

My assumption was that the parents tortured her to death, judging by how intense her screaming was. If they just straight up killed her, it probably woulda been a more merciful end.

What pissed me off is they wouldn't even listen to her side of the story. And they didn't wonder about all her injuries and covered in composted. She looked like hell. It would be obvious to normal people that something wasn't adding up with what their kids claimed

They either don't care and just wanted revenge on an outsider or they were very stupid people

It's not going to make a difference to them that it's self-defense. She hurt their kids (and killed one) so she needs to pay.

The kid distracting himself in the mirror at the end is a big hint that this isn't the first time he has had to drown out abuse and is a big factor as to why he is the way he is.

I didn't get the impression that the parents were all evil. I think the main point was that, like the main kid, everybody was afraid of the main kid's father, who was like the main bully. One of the family members pleads with the father and he ignores it. In their anger, grief and fear, they all went along with it.

Well if my experience with True Crime has taught me anything, it's that the more people in on a murder, the smaller chance they will keep it a secret forever. There was like 20 people at that party . No way in hell that they all keep their mouth shut. I take comfort in knowing they would all be caught eventually and have a massive trial

Apparently it even fell under some controversy because of that ending, which now that I think about it, isnt really surprising.

One of the best English language horror films of the '00s for sure.

I have read some criticism of the film, though, that it's kind of classist in a way most Americans wouldn't really understand without being British. They're basically all chavs, which are like the British version of "white trash," and some people see the film as being the equivalent of, "this person is a hillbilly so they must be uneducated and scary"

I daresay we have a few of those ourselves, but I can see Americans missing the subtext due to ignorance of dialects.

Speaking as someone who grew up on dreary working-class housing estates in England, I feel qualified to assure you that there's a fuckload of chavs who are uneducated and scary.

No - I know we've got a lot of that, too. There's just a lot of the chav stereotype that maybe isn't immediately noticeable to American audiences. Like you said, for one - their dialect is a great example.
