Nope. And don't want to be. I don't know if unions in other industries are different, but I've found that in manufacturing, specifically in machine shops, unions often foster laziness in employees and a workplace where things take longer than they need to. I've heard stories of CNC machinists in union shops that are not allowed to edit their programs since that's the programmers' job. So things that should be easy 5 second fixes become a whole rigmarole involving people from various departments.

I won't speak on the laziness aspect of this, but as for the second half of your post this seems like something that can be addressed by the union. If enough people come together to hash it out, they can likely get past those nonsense rules, but that does require union members to participate.

I'm part of a union because I work for a school and they tend to be unionized places of work. Can't say enough good about my workplace, though I am only a few months in.

I'd like to be in a union, but at the jobs I've had, my coworkers were so fucking stupid that I can't imagine a vote working.

No, I was Amazon or Amazon-adjacent for a large amount of my adult life, then I was a small business owner

Now I'm decently high up at a small company and my workers haven't unionized or even talked about unionizing. I'm self-aware enough to know that if they ever do unionize then we probably have it coming although right now they're happy.

No, I'm management

This post taught me that managers are (in theory) banned from joining unions in the US, which is not only not the case where I live (theres a constitutional right for anybody to join a union) but it is common for managers to remain in unions after being promoted. The US always strikes me as quite odd when I learn about its labour laws.

generally anyone with hiring/firing and/or policy-making powers is excluded from the union. They are considered part of the companys bargaining power.
