Should've said so earlier, but this topic is hugely entertaining to read. It's actually tempting me to play some of the games I've missed as well, but I do still have Ashen Wolves and Golden Deer left on my return to Three Houses, and I don't even feel too good about getting those done before Engage! Three Houses is just too honkin' huge, for better AND worse.

I have over 300 hours in 3 houses, and that's all one consecutive NG+ cycle. It's just a different type of beast lol.

Pirate time for my boy Ross. He's had some pretty spectacular level ups. On the screen where you pick your promotion, it for all intents and purposed say "Pirate - rad, Fighter - a shittier pirate".

Thank God I didn't have to actually kill the spider, I got Vanessa there one space away from it attacking the kids and there was no way I was one rounding. Thankfully it ended with the boss death.

I think 3 Houses has the strongest cast. Though, Golden Deer has a lot of stinkers in there. I also think 3 Houses just naturally has an advantage in cast due to how the story is set up.

7-9 is definitely a good set of characters. Looking forward to your experience with Ross the Boss.

Man it's going to be so rough leveling that little Troubadour lol.

Just made my path decision. Thoughts so far.

Quality of life is waaaaay up. Menus and management systems are a huge step above FE6. Pretty much my only real complaint is still no universal enemy range indicator, but the GBA only had so many buttons.

The biggest different is the storytelling. Way more engaging, way more characterization, much bigger noteable cast. It's absolutely night and day.

The game is MUCH easier. There's no comparison here. Obviously I'm sure it will vary, but I don't feel any need to rush a promotion outside of the healer classes.

That said...Franz is at Twelve, I may promote him early her to start leveling Axes? Definitely going Great Knight just for balancing since this is my Seth included route.

I'm sure this won't be the case for secret shops and stuff, but it looks like all the other shops you can just visit on the map after battles whenever you want?

Sending Ross through the ocean south of chapter 9's start to solo the entire end of the map other than the boss.

OK well I was able to get Amelia to promote right after getting her from just the first floor of the tower, so I guess I will give her a whirl lol

Man they really slam in the interpersonal relationships, it's hard to NOT want to use all the characters.

The +14 Con is what really sells that image for me.

Ewan is such a colorful druid it's almost as funny as general Amelia lol

I think Knoll might be better in Ephraim's route anyway? I'm not sure, I only tried using him once.

It's a wash. If I recall correctly, while Knoll does technically join Ephraim first, it's the difference between "joins after Act 2 has finished" and "joins at the start of Act 3."

It's basically a one turn difference, unless you want to grind Knoll in the tower between chapters.

What it's mean when a glowing blue light pops over the top of your unit right befor the attack?

It means their skill activated. FE8 has a few class skills, like Generals get to completely nullify damage or Snipers get to get 100% accuracy on their hit.

On that note, if you have any Wyvern Knights, turn off their animations. There's a glitch with their skill causing a hardlock if they're attacking at range and do enough damage with it (which isn't hard to do since it ignores defense).

Are those skills listed in game somewhere?

Just finished 15, PLOT.

REALLY loving this, if getting 2/3rds through the game in one day didn't make that clear. Every map in FE6 I had to take a break, it was so stressful. This is the opposite. Not that there's NO challenge, but I'm not feeling any anxiety.

I think if you press L or R and go over the class name, it'll give you the skill.

Sacred Stones is probably my favourite of the GBA games, with the main reason for it being that it just doesn't have notably awful parts. Binding Blade has chapter 14 and a lot of bosses (and half the Sacae route on hard), Blazing Blade has a few really dull defense maps and the snow/rain gimmicks that pop up here and there. Nothing in FE8 makes me think "oh god not this map"

Nearly every map in FE8 makes me think "oh god not this map" but mostly because they're just really dull and easy, tbh

FE8 doesn't have any maps I'd really consider a standout, but on the other hand, it doesn't have any maps that I'd consider awful, either.

FE8 is the easiest to just play and zone out (which makes it great for randomizers... well that and the monster classes) but I think it definitely has the weakest maps of the GBA trio.

Question for the future, did anyone ever put out a fan patched version of FE7 japanese in english? I know they made mechanical changes to the US version of that game like nerfing crits, and that the translation was real iffy.

I find female myrmidons to be the most overrated units in pretty much every game. Even when they actually have good combat (like Ayra and Larcei), there's something else holding them back. RD Mia is the only one I find worth using.

If you want to count Catherine she's also good. In general though, yeah. Turns out combat only infantry units using the lowest might weapon type that is usually locked to 1 range that have low strength and defense is not a very good archetype, who would have guessed?

Speaking of which, since I'm approaching the end, should I do the Ephraim route right after, or move to Geneology? I absolutely will be playing the Ephraim route for this topic either way, just a matter of when.

I'm...a little scared of FE4.

Definitely do Ephraim route first. FE4's lack of QOL stuff is quite a change. But really, the main things you got to know are:

1) Trading between units doesn't exist. You trade by selling at the Pawn shop and then buying it with another unit (each unit has their own gold).
2) Doubling exists as a skill: Pursuit. If you have Pursuit and you can double, you double. If you don't have Pursuit and you can double, you cannot double. There's other skills that "double" like Charge or Adept, but not in the traditional sense of literally doubling someone.

I know the game has an Awakening-esque (Though of course that more like Awakening has a Geneology-esque) second generation which is the one thing I have been spoiled on (nothing about the plot around it), and it makes me want to look at the eugenics optimization so fucking bad because that shit slaps.

Damn, well I though I would finish this tonight, but chapter 19 was kind of a mother fucker! That entire mess down there at the bottom was hell on earth.

That said, looking at this shop and how much money I have, I feel more powerful than I could have ever imagined now.

I don't know what they were thinking with L'Arachel as a unit, unless they seriously thought Sleuf and Sara were way too overpowered, so make the late joining staffbot low leveled instead.
