You're walking along one day, thinking about which incarnation of Star Trek is the best when suddenly you get a call from your mom. She's panicking and concerned because your dad out of the blue has volunteered to go fight against Russains in Ukraine.

You go over to see him and sure enough find him packing his bag. He says he's signed up to join the volunteer foreign soldiers fighting in Ukraine.

"Damn right I'm going, we got them bastards on the ropes son and the one thing you don't do when your enemy is on the ropes is back down. You hit them as hard and fast as you can with everything you got!

I already got my gun sorted and I've got my flight to Poland first thing in the morning so help me pack or stop wasting my time. Hey! You should come with me, join the fight and use your hands for something other than computer gaming for once."

Janeway is be best captain and my dad is dead, so that would be odd.

But hey, I respect his wishes.

I realize this is an alternate universe, since my father is in a nursing home & not at all physical or mentally capable of deciding or doing this.

Since I'm in an alternate universe, I just let things play out to see what other crazy stuff happens. Who knows? Maybe he'll become a war hero.

I would be surprised seeing that he can barely leave the bed himself.

I would be surprised because hes way too old

my dad works in an army base as a civilian atm. he does a job that requires him to sit behind a computer all day. so he'd likely not be in the frontlines and instead be stationed in some base the entire time in Ukraine. that said I think the chances of him dying in the ukraine is probably higher than his tour in the middle east.

of course i tell him that im not gonna go with him cuz i dont wanna die. i would not convince him to back away tbh because im scared of him

My dad passed in February so while it would be strange that he came back to life, I'd take it. Just getting to have another conversation with him would be quite meaningful.

Was thinking the same. Mine died in June 2 of 2020, so I guess him being alive and fighting a war in Russia would be better than not having him at all.

How much a 74 year old man could contribute to the war effort? I don't know.

I'd be thinking of some kind of pod people scenario.

Hes only 50 and i have 0 doubt that he would be more than happy if it meant shooting at enemy combatants.

I would be neutral on the subject.

How can you have a dad who is a Republican and not have learned that they can 180 and doublethink any belief they have at a drop of a hat

Remember when Mitt Romney was under fire by Democrats for saying Russia is a geopolitical threat and not an ally?

I wouldn't be thinking about which Captain is best because I already know it's Picard.

Shrug and tell him that he is throwing his life away but that if this is how he wants to die then it is his choice.

I would not be joining him at all and Picard in TNG is the best captain.

My dad died around this time a year a ago, so I'd probably freak out.
