Children are meant to starve in the UK.

It builds character and gets them ready for not being able to go to the food banks they'll be reliant on later in life.

In my country (NZ), aside from maybe fancy private schools, students bring their own lunch. There is usually also a 'tuckshop' at the school where nice food can be bought.

In the UK:
Section 512 of the Education Act 1996, as amended, places a duty on maintained schools, academies and free schools to provide free school meals to pupils of all ages that meet the criteria.

Now I wonder just how damn low that criteria is set...

Got to be making less than 7000 a year to qualify. Which is pretty fucking low and deep into poverty.
