I think his problem is that someone is so insincere that they think pretending to mistake accusations of being an alt account as an accusation of being part of a subculture is supposed to be convincing.

Because the younger you teach kids that those people exist, the harder it is to convince them that they're not worthy of the same human decency as everyone else.

That's why it's "wait until high school". Which turns into "wait until they're 18". Which turns into "We never had gay people in my schools!"

Yeah, kids aren't bothered by any of this shit. You know who is, though?

Their homophobic, transphobic parents who wake up in a cold sweat worrying their child might be gay and/or trans.

My 2 cents

I think you can teach the TQ+ early on in regards to gender in a science class lesson on humans. The LGB should be taught the same time as regular sex education since those are sexual orientations; I don't know if actual lessons on those would sink in as well on prepubescent children.

However, I also believe that there should be more normalization of same-sex couples and other similar concepts in the story books in earlier grades. That way, the concept is introduced without diving into the sexual side of it with children that young who may or may not be ready for it.

That is exactly what people who are for teaching children about LGBTQ+ people are advocating for, and exactly what the people who are against it are trying to stop.
Other than fear mongering from conservatives, no one is saying that elementary school children should be taught the mechanics and exact details of same sex couples.

Little kids don't initially understand that their grandparents are their parents' moms and dads.

Kids being confused for a day about someone having two dads or two moms isn't a valid argument.

Just include questions and books that have same sex couples. Helps normalise it if the general media they consume has it.

Exactly. And weave some historical events and figure into the social studies curriculum.

I think they're saying that bigots use the argument that "kids will be confused" if schools teach them about queer people existing, and that it's a terrible argument because kids are going to be initially confused by a lot of things.

And I'll add that this includes pretty much everything that is taught in schools, like math, chemistry, foreign languages... it's going to be confusing to a lot of students at first. It doesn't mean they shouldn't learn about it in school. So it's a shit argument that only bigots with zero self-awareness seem to make.
