I feel like something must be going really wrong with Sony first party internally.

It's about five years old. That's one year less than the time between RE1 and REmake, and probably more by the time it comes out.

the difference being of course that you can play horizon zero dawn on the ps5 right now and it works and is essentially the exact same experience that they'll repackage and resell to us for $70 ($50 if they're merciful)

The gap in presentation between RE1 and remake is not even comparable. Incredibly disengenuous to compare!

I can only laugh when people use Resident Evil to justify the existence of these remakes.

The PS1 and GC versions of RE are like night and day. 6 years was a long time in the video game industry back in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Nowadays I could play a game that was made 6 years ago and if you told me it was a new release, I'd believe you!

Nothing in that description sounds like a remake. It's just a remaster, and next gen remasters have happened all the time for the last 15 years.

What do you mean? It already got a free PS5 update that improved graphics and gave us 60FPS. Are there some Xbox games that got new models and a new multiplayer mode for free for next gen?

REmake was a completely different game with much superior graphics, more streamlined gameplay, and tastier Jill Sandwiches. The original RE was a very early 3D game on a console that was already considered primitive after 5 years. REmake was a huge upgrade.

Because the PS4 still plays and looks great, and many of those games are playable on PS5, there is no reason for there to be a remake of Zero Dawn. Just put out another game in the series instead of rehashing the exact same one, because this confirms that they have zero ideas for what to do for sequels.

I have no angst. I am just baffled as to why they think this is a good idea for this very reason.

It's because if they're going to make a remake it should be a game that actually has performance problems and could benefit from it immensely.

Like, let's say we even stick with PS4 games. Bloodborne is RIGHT THERE, they own it. It ACTUALLY has problems that could even fit a remake or remaster.

Or how about...Any game you can't actually play on the PS5 already? For God's sake Horizon has a PS5 boost!

I tried HZD recently when they gave it for free and it felt insanely dated. But that's was mostly due to design. There's a lot of new open world lessons they could apply there. If they remake it with new graphics and same design, it's gonna be a total waste.

Don't worry they didn't fix any of the problems in the sequel.

I think forbidden west is an extremely bad game from a pure game design perspective

  • extremely cluttered UI
  • huge world map, but it's devoid of natural landmarks
  • none of the skill tree is useful
  • enemies are mostly damage sponges
  • infinite trinkets/junk to pick up and none of it is interesting
visually it's gorgeous but it's weirdly not fun. story wise it's passable and has a mini-mass effect 2 gameplay loop but it's not worth it.

The Horizon devs are the ones who went on Twitter to complain about how Elden Ring had bad UI when it fucking crushed them in sales, lol. They're a salty bunch.

I quit playing Zero Dawn when I got to the really BIG city next to a huge pit in a dessert area. There was just too much shit going on and I was overwhelmed and said fuck it.

Sounds like Forbidden West is even worse about it.

Just make a new Killzone or something.

They also hyped up the paraglider like it would be half as useful or interesting as the glider in BoTW and it's just not.

Also endgame gameplay spoilers you unlock the ability to ride on giant birds at the VERY END of the game. So they saved the best/coolest movement option until the game is basically over.

This was absolutely laughable considering not only the sales argument but the fact that they were just plain wrong. They were trying to virtue signal a point about "quest accessibility" to cover up the fact that Elden Ring actually has a world that players want to walk around in and explore without being told exactly where to go and putting a billion markers on your map. They were mad that there's more interesting story and lore in one two-second throwaway line of dialogue in Elden Ring than in a 6 minute long exposition dump in FW.

Wow that's incredibly stupid. I bought it on sale about a month ago because I thought I could enjoy that new addition to the game at least.

Around 10 hours in I got too frustrated and quit. The glider was indeed a letdown, it drops too fast. And now that I know about that spoiler I feel no reason to ever go back. What a disappointment!

Sounds like the first game. I really really wanted to like it given I liked the story and protagonist and combat

But man the overworld was terrible.

Elden ring had its own issues in terms of overworld but man was it fun to just gallop around random places and watch the scenery change

elden ring and botw both have immersive open worlds that can be empty/boring, but the gameplay is such that most players will want to keep playing to "see what's over this hill" or "go investigate that thing in the distance." usually but not always the game will reward you (with a catacomb or a korok seed at least). these rewards generally feel important (even the korok seeds for most of the game I'd argue).

games like horizon don't have anything you can see in the distance and they really do just rely on you wanting to open the map, make a highlighted auto-route grand theft auto style, and check this icon off your list. it's possible find something "naturally" if you turn off all of your map icons, but it feels random when this happens as opposed to a well-designed map. and if you do find something/climb to the top of a mountain or whatever, you will get a weapon you don't need or a part that you've probably already gotten before and will get again ad nauseum.

Honestly I thought it was less the korok seeds and more the variety of different ways they would show up.

You never knew if the korok seed would require a puzzle, or be hidden, or something. There was always mystery and anticipation

HZD was like "Go to spot. Hooray you followed the map"

Damn didn't know the sequel changed nothing. It really seems like they should make a linear game like God of War. But then they'd be competing with God of War.... better than competing with Elden Ring I suppose.

What the hell is this post
Did you really compare 1996-2002 with 2017-2022? do you know how different the advancement in technology was back then?
Like...GTA 1 was released in 1997, GTA 3 was released in 2001
Breath of the Wild was released in 2017, Tears of the Kingdom will release in 2023
Also see difference between RE7 and RE8

Seriously what the hell

I played it earlier this year on my PS5 thanks to the free upgrade, and the game looked absolutely gorgeous. I can't imagine it'll be worth to buy the remaster over the (now much cheaper) original. Maybe they will fix that weird uncanny valley thing they had going on with the animations when you talk to people, which was already much improved in the Frozen Wilds DLC.
