Would have been released on the Nintendo DS and gameplay would have been similar to Final Fantasy Tactics. Shows a lot of artwork telling the story, characters, and what the gameplay would had been.

Just watched this on YT. Yet another interesting idea that got killed off before really getting a chance.

As a commenter said, it seems like it was pitched at the wrong time. Nintendo has loosened up a bit on their IPs since then, and especially Zelda what with Hyrule Warriors, Cadence of Hyrule, and others.

I'll have to check this out later because I'm a fan of tactics games and I'm curious if they had any real innovations to the formula or if it would have been a bog standard tactics title with a zelda paint job.

According to the pitch, there a greater emphasis on item-collecting than EXP-leveling (like typical Zelda games) and also on overcoming obstacles with new abilities like Metroid.

Watched a little bit of it. Cool concept, extremely funny how the main character's name would have been Corey

Seemed more like Nintendo's main concern was brand management and not that they were worried Retro would make a bad zelda game. MP3 was needed for the Wii. DK was dead as a franchise and needed to be brought back but there was never any lacking of the Zelda brand.

Nintendo has been pretty transparent that they do not consider those franchises to be even remotely important.

EB probably doesn't count as much of a Nintendo franchise despite them owning it tbh. It's basically Itoi's, and he probably feels it's complete

Man, it really is a shame that that concept was rejected. Would have been cool to play.
