At least in the US there is suppose to be a concept of equal protection. GameFAQs moderators already violate that in several ways. More left leaning bias would only make that worse.

There are two scripts. One maintained by me and one maintained by TeaMilk.
Technically they are the same script, I just created one the last time there was a bug in it. I think mine stylizes the avatars differently and I have them in the topic list as well (I may have never pushed this change).

Technically there has been one avatar script or another since I originally created GameFAQs-avatars almost a decade ago.

If I keep winning at the casino maybe I'll just buy GameFAQs and turn it into a game publisher and have guide exclusivity deals

Basically. And it's not like the site hasn't been passed off from one shitty company to another multiple times already. Red Ventures was only able to buy the site because ViacomCBS dumped it for being worthless garbage.

ViacomCBS was right.

Now Red Ventures is selling off the shittier parts of its portfolio while keeping the only parts they believe are still worth having. And they don't think GameFAQs has any real value.

Red Ventures is also right.

Likely you'll see even less moderation as the new owners continue to ignore the site, refuse to put any real money or effort into it, and just try to think of new ways to squeeze a little more blood from the stone before tossing the shitty potato to the next asshole.

It'd be like someone buying MySpace or AOL Instant Messenger today and thinking the new owners would do anything meaningful to try and revitalize it as a major player in online culture. That ship has long since sailed, sunk, and rotted away underwater.

At this point I'm mostly just astonished that someone's still willing to pay to keep the servers running.

You know? If I ever had the opportunity to buy the site for one dollar, I'd wait for the business deal to go through and then shut this site down for good. It was a "good" run. Those of us who care at all about other members have ways of making contact outside of this site.

Serebii is weird. It has tons of useful information, but actually getting to it is annoying, and so is the way they format all of it. That was fine back during the internet when gen 2 was the newest, but it aged poorly.

Gamefaqs at the same level as screen junkies. Damn how gamefaqs has fallen. Competing with a youtube channel that makes one video a week since Andy was cancelled.

GameFAQs' guides have largely gone out of style in favour of wikis that allow people to drill down to the specific information they want instead of scrolling through large documents. On the boards side of things, they've been very slow to modernize and that's resulted in a lot of the potential userbase going to Reddit or other forums to discuss games, aside from a handful of holdouts that stay here out of habit or the occasional new person that likes the more primitive style. Toss in the fact that the boards are pretty miserable to use if you don't block the ads, and you've got a recipe for a dying site.

If you're looking for a step-by-step walkthrough? Indeed not (though the Dark Souls wikis generally have pretty good text walkthroughs, as a counterexample). If you're just looking for "who drops this?" or "where is this character?" or "where does this sidequest start," though, they tend to be a lot better because you can get your answer by just going to the page for that item/character/sidequest. A very large number of people look for that sort of guidance when they need help with a game: they just want to figure out the one thing they're stuck on, rather than getting a guide for everything.

And then when Wikis don't work so well, you get youtube as another resource, or Reddit for more active discussion of the game than you usually get on GameFAQs... GameFAQs can still be the best place to get the information you need in some cases, but there are a lot of alternatives now that tend to do a better job.
