With Like AITA -- sometimes they'll change perspective to the Asshole, like "Then he went to the shops and saw this girl and said XXXXXX, and in his mind he thought XXXXXX", and you're like how'd you know that? You can't possibly know that with the way you've portrayed your "account" of what occurred.

The Antiwork stories are always someone has lost their father last week, and their mother is on a ventilator, and they have to look after their poor sister (who often has some disease), and CPS says they're going to take their sister away if they get the neighbor to look after them again, but the boss after hearing such a heartfelt story, rather than even offering a compromise says "Either you cover the shift today at <insert low paid position at generic company here>, or you might as well not come in, again"
It's always covering someone's shift, as well -- like they haven't even asked for any time off due to family bereavement, they missed their own brothers funeral covering last time, but they've had enough this time, and it's almost always a part-time low paid position...

I'll be nice & say maybe up to 5% are not trolls.

More likely to be true than those animated stories on YouTube and Facebook.

Everything on Reddit is fake. I always want to punch the "journalist" through their screen when I find some "news" article they wrote that primarily sources a thread on Reddit with no validation that the thread isn't some fake self-fellating story the redditor made up, especially if the thread came from subreddits are pretty much always fake like AITA, Antiwork, MaliciousCompliance, etc.

Just curious, but why do you assume they're all fake? Have you looked at the shit people have done to others throughout history? Most of the stories seem pretty tame in comparison. I'm not saying there aren't ones making it up, but it seems unlikely to me that they're all fake.

i generally assume 10-20% of material on sites like those are real.

Though often times the easiest way to tell an AITA is fake is when there's an "update" post.

AITA: My boss, Benito Adolf Stalin (M38) threated to fire me (F22) because i refused to microwave a puppy for his enjoyment while i was off the clock (McDonalds).

I just worked a 126 hours shift (under the table and unpaid) and he asked me to cover for Mike (M14) because he had a headache and had to go home. I told my boss (BAS) that i couldnt do it and he told me to clock out and go home. He told me that i wouldnt be paid for the last 124 hours of the shift that i worked since i was unscheduled for it all anyway. I was ok with that until the puppy thing. He (M38) said he would fire me if i didnt do it.

I stood up to him and told him i would rather DIE than do so. To my surprise the CEO of McDonalds (M77) happened to be in the line while this was happening (it was the lunch rush), and fired my manager, promoted me to general manager(F22), and gave me a 200 dollar starbucks gift card. Everyone in the restaurant clapped and cheered me on!

But AITA for getting the old GM fired?

I (436 m) have a nephew, Hunter (16 m), who used to be very well behaved. Id say "the titan has big plans for you" and he would do whatever he was told, which was a great asset for the coven as well as a great improvement from my late brother (26 m) who he was cloned from.
However, a group of rebels has recently attempted to invade my mind with illegal and unholy wild magic. Hunter attempted to stop them but his carelessness took the better of him and he ended up trapped in my mind with a human (14 f) due to his own negligence. I, out of the kindness of my heart, decided to take this as an opportunity to put him to the test and check his loyalty. I, as my inner self, guided him through several memories of me using a special technique to get people to listen to me, perfecting sigil magic, and having a conversation about him with a friend. Besides, these memories had the ingredients necessary to finally get rid of the pesky palisman souls that keep nagging me all day, so I assumed that it wouldnt be an issue.
However, Hunter decided to repay my kindness by defying me and asking "what I did to the other (defective) golden guards" and had the audacity to suggest that our family was never destroyed by wild magic and that it was all a lie. He acted like this even after I thanked him for distracting the palisman beast, not to mention that I took him in and gave him a staff with artificial magic. So I punished him by trapping him in my subconscious forever. I thought this was a very reasonable punishment considering his insolence. Besides, hed have more than enough time down there to think about his actions. Unfortunately, he managed to escape by using wild glyph magic and getting help from the outside to return to the physical world. I sent out a search party to look for him and am planning to deal with him properly upon his return.
I do not believe that I am in the wrong, however that human girl who was with him called me "evil". Cant reason with crazy, as I say, but now I wonder you all think.

People are super cynical and assume every post is fake for some reason. This is separate from mere skepticism, which means you're open to believing something but not blindly so.

Which is, of course, not to say that everything is true. But some of it is.

The antiwork one sounds about right. They don't even like people taking a week off after having a baby, sometimes.

Antiwork is usually believable assuming it's not a screenshot of text messages. Even then, ever since they blew up almost everything on there has been at leas a little sus.

AITA is 50% creative writing, 50% people seeking validation by posting stories where they are clearly not the asshole, or are so comically one-sided and over-the-top it leaves you questioning if the poster isn't outright lying or leaving stuff out. >_>

I assume the real stories get much lower up votes than what is "hot".

I feel like around half are fake (trolling, delusions, attention seeking, etc.), and a good portion of that remaining half are severely distorted versions of a story that the poster wants you to believe because they know they are the asshole but would like validation.
