They monkeys are fine for a play through they have fine attack stats, speed and move pool. People just hate their design, and for what it's worth Simisage is the worst of the 3 given that grass is the 3rd worst type in the game.

Grass is a good type, it's one of 2 that can take out the op water type, also works on rock and ground which are super common, is you don't have something to counter fire, flying, ice, bug and poison you need a better team

Grass is pointless is most of the games, I know they've done away with HM requirements (fantastic decision) and that has made grass far more usable but given that surf was one of the best hms and thus actually usable as a combat move you basically needed a water type and it helped that water is stronger than grass. So then grass... it's basically covered by the superior water type so it's difficult to fit it into a team there is also that in most games the most common water types are tentacool and wingull which you don't want a grass type for. So you get the electric type for water and flying since rock types don't tend to be very popular either in my experience.

Shit type with exploitable poor defensive stats whats not to love lol

It is difficult to justify having a pure grass type.

Serperior does see some play due to his speed bracket, as well as cottonee/whimsicott due to prankster
