Based on just the first game:

Laura > Rean > Emma > Gaius > Jusis > Fie > Alisa > Elliot > Machias

they're all kinda boring and problematic in different ways in the first game tbh

Jusis and Fie, just CS1 I'll say Fie.

Between Rean or Laura. Voted Rean.

Sara was the actual best though.

Because I wanted people to be able to discuss the first game freely. And there are more playable characters, but I figured rather than slot them into "Other" it'd be better to limit the options to the core group.

Probably Rean for the delay attacks. One thing that annoys me about CS1 is the constant party changing. I get it they wanna make you use everyone and stuff but i just wanna pick my fav party and run with it.

Fie is easily my favorite of the core group. Crow's close if you expand from there, but otherwise Fie is the uncontested best.

Judging only by the first game, I'd say Fie > Jusis > Alisa > Rean > Machias > Elliot > Laura > Emma > Gaius. But these shift around a lot. Emma gets a real bad showing at first, for instance.

Yeah, I'd rank Emma low just because they tease her backstory for the whole game and then you never find out what her deal is.

Circa CS1 I think my ranking was

Sara > Fie > Jusis > Laura > Rean > Crow > Emma > Gaius > Alisa > Elliot > Millium > Machias

If you're talking character development/likability wise?

Jusis > Fie > Rean > Alisa > Laura > Emma > Elliot > Machias > Gaius

Combat wise, however, is:

Laura > Rean > Fie > Alisa > Elliot > Emma > Jusis > Gaius > Machias

It definitely changes for me in both categories in CS2 though.

Rean, though just based on the first game I'd probably have said Alisa

in just CS1

CS1 is the only CS I've played so far and I don't think I realized how little I cared about the cast until I saw them all in a list like this.

Voted Laura but my real answer would be Sara.

Crow easily, but I voted for Rean out of these options

you can go ahead and play the first game since it just came out if you absolutely need to play them first

I mean Azure is expected to come out within the first 2-3 months of next year, there's no reason to not wait for it at this point.

I will never understand people that say Laura is the best character based on personality alone (gameplay yeah she's great). I mean, she's not BAD or anything, but my god is she just a cookie cutter boring 'sword obsessed girl' character.

Usually they're the same people that claim Alisa is a tsundere when she has no tsundere tendencies AT ALL just because she's blonde and has twintails.

Laura is cool and her competition isnt very stiff especially in the first game imo. Being a cool sword girl is all she really needs to beat most of them.

Gameplay wise Emma, Machias and Gaius are probably the weakest in CS1. Jusis, Fie and Laura are just different versions of Rean (support, speed & power) and Elliot and Alisa are better than Emma as support/Arts users because they have the better crafts. The only thing Machias is good at is getting you out of a sticky situation with his time move.

When the question is asking best playable character I am only concerned with the gameplay aspect of them and nothing else

I'm generally dubs only for everything but sometimes you have to compromise to enjoy greatness

It might actually be Rean for the first game. His personality gets a lot worse later, but he's great in CS1.

Still haven't finished this one, but gameplay-wise my MVP is Elliot somehow
