Googling around, I think it's the Chevy Spark...? Anyone have any experience with these? Can't even find any reviews online about it.

Backstory: My parents-in-law crashed and wrecked their midsized sedan (Toyota Camry). Since they got older, their driving skill has suffered, so I want to get them a tiny car so it's easier to drive and maneuver.

If they are so bad at driving you are looking for a car to compensate maybe they shouldn't be driving at all

I mean... how would they travel? It's not like a car is optional here in the great old U.S. of A; cars are a freakin' requirement here.

Uber or public transportation. Maybe they can think about becoming shut ins. I dont care as long as shitty old drivers stay off the road

Yea, public transit is not happening here. Uber will be cost prohibitive and useless for grocery shopping and fishing, which is what they like to do.

On a serious note getting bad drivers a really small car is basically like rolling the dice on when a truck is going to tbone and massacre them after they run a stop sign

So stop signs and red lights, they still got it. The problem is, my father-in-law (who's the primary driver) now sucks at judging "space" in general. So he has problems parking into spots. This is how he wrecked the Camry- he misjuged the turn radius, and smashed right into another car. Insurance company considered the Camry wrecked, and just gave him a check for like $3k.

So it was perpendicular parking:

Where "c" = car parked and "o" = empty spot, and "x" = his car with -> the direction of travel.

He tried to make a left into the "o" spot, but he mis-judged the angle, and was on a path to hit the car on the right. Instead of braking, he accelerated and hit the car pretty hard. The repair estimates were like $5k for the Toyota, so insurance just considered it totaled and sent a check for the car's value at ~$3k.

Driving is not a right. If someone is no longer capable of safely being on the road, their license needs to be taken from them

I do agree with you that old people shouldnt drive, but whatever; the law is the law and they have insurance.

He can't drive. Period. You don't give a pass for him just doing a portion of it right. He makes another mistake, it could be more than just car damage. It's unfortunate, but there's no fully predicting or understanding his driving competence now, and for how long.

I think we settled on the Kia Soul because it has more safety features.

It is a car where you do not just exit the car. The door just allows you to leave.

Spark with driver assist is like $23k, and Chevy is apparently discontinuing it. Soul with even more driver assist features is $24k, and theyre not discontinuing it; so Soul it is lol.

I was at my heaviest, 340lbs. It was a tight squeeze to get in and out of my car.
