In the lore when Sauron was at full power he had the elves on the ropes, and then Numenor stepped in at the last moment and god stomped him. A few centuries later when Sauron gathered his strength again, Numenor marched right up to his gate without a single battle and Sauron immediately surrendered when he saw Numenor got even more powerful. I didn't hate it. I think the idea could have stylistically been done better. But it's fine. There are a lot more casual LotR fans than people online realize. Tbf though, a literal volcano erupted. The Mordor reveal was definitely cringy. Not the name change or anything. Just the font looked like some horror movie shit. Adar should have just said it. But it was 100% needed. A lot of my friends were shocked even though it's been known since like the second episode that it's gonna be Mordor. Casual fans definitely didn't put that together. I too was puzzled at both Galadriel getting so far away from the others and Nori's dad talking about sticking together. Also, I'm really surprised they're waking Durin's Bane (is that him?) up so early. Nah, I meant like, the assumption is that Cerebrimbor already has a plan about making something, which seems already in play. So someone has already influenced him. But you make a good point. Cerebrimbor could just have some general plan about saving the elves right now and Halbrand is gonna be the one to offer up some ideas and influence him. But I think we're forgetting something important. The showrunners are pretty much JJ Abram's proteges. They worked with him on lots of other stuff like Star Trek and even had Abrams put in a good word for them at Amazon, which got them the job. Hence all the mystery boxes. The Harfoots are the only bit that drags it down for me (sorry Sir Lenny).
