Two kids were killed by pitbulls, their own pitbulls. The mother tried to separate them but I believe it was too late. I believed animal control took their pits and the kids were pronounce dead at the hospital. There's always debates about Pits and some say they are naturally mean and other say it how they are raised. But do anyone else think there could be more to it. Maybe they had a doggy mental illness and they were triggered and snapped? I feel like research should be done.

Edit: this isn't me saying pits are bad. I gave my best friend a mix Pit and she is dumb happy. I can put my hand in her mouth and slap the tongue and she will just lick me.

I am being serious. We never really consider these things. Dogs get similar or even the same ailment as us. Cancer, pneumonia, etc.... Why should even discount Mental Illness??

Oh they were nanny dogs. Until fighting rings happened and they were bred to be super violent. Then when the rings were busted up, tons of them became strays and bred with the nanny population and overpowered those older instincts with the trigger to kill. And because a lot of those strays were adopted by poor people who used them for security purposes, they continued to make sure the violent tendencies remained and didn't have then spayed or neutered, which is why we have so many muts wandering the streets with the killer gene.

I have seen dogs get triggered for no reason sometimes. One of my neighbors had a dog and loved everyone. He saw this one guy and started growling at him for no reason. My neighbor never abused his dog ever.

You can't even genocide a breed, that's something you can only do to humans. And since dogs are all the same species anyways, there's no real issue if a breed were to be rendered extinct by sterilizing ones who are pets and having the strays euthanized. But there's too many bleeding hearts out there who will disagree, especially for dogs.

The thing is most people don't abuse their dogs. However, they're some pits that can randomly attack. I feel like if there was more research we would find out why.

Well, a lot of people draw from their own experience. If you look in the original post. I told my experience about big dogs. While I am wary of them, I have seen first hand experience that some are just peaceful.

My Gf won't let me say anything bad about dogs even pitbulls. Whenever I try to get her to see reason she says that Pits are sweet dogs and all dogs can be aggressive sometimes. She isn't using her brain on this one.

I love dogs but I've never had any positive experiences with pit bulls or their owners.

Because most pitbulls don't randomly snap and kill people. This creates a kind of anecdotal/selection bias with people who have mostly positive experiences with pit bulls insisting that their experiences are the only valid one and every other contradictory experience must have an alternative explanation that exculpates the dog.

It's kind of like guns. Gun violence is generally agreed to be a problem by most rational people in the country but the fact is 99% of gun owners are responsible and these gun owners feel like they're being punished for doing everything by the book because some asshole went on a killing spree.

Unlike guns, people are far more ready to admit that guns are dangerous, require special care and training. All that flies out the window when it comes to pitbulls and people just treat them like any other dog rather than dangerous animals who need special care and the result is a random assortment of people will die for no reason other than they believed someone else's bullshit about how pitbulls are perfectly normal unremarkable dogs.

You'll find that the anti pitbull crowd consists mostly of people with bad experiences or people who never owned one or been around them. The PDF will say it's because they're ignorant and I say it's because they understand statistics beats anecdotes any time, any day. And while pitbulls may be neither the most dangerous or most aggressive dog, the risk is disproportionately unfavorable compared to many other naturally friendly dogs.
