In a frankly absurd move, they're going back and removing/fixing all the stuff Saban did to edit the show, including moving and editing scenes, censoring stuff, adding freeze frames, and fucking with timing. In some cases they're having to reanimated some parts of the scenes from scratch. They're doing this all while still keeping the original dub.

The Twitter thread here explains how much they're having to do. Over 1600 fixes will need to be applied.

What's the difference between de-Saban and just using the original Japanese footage?

It looks like they're digitally remastering/upscaling the original footage and they have to resort to the original footage for certain episodes and transitions, because the way the original dub was made makes it hard for the AI to upscale it properly.

I don't think they're fully uncutting everything that was cut though as it sounds like it's still a faithful reproduction of the original dub. Just where those cuts and changes caused problems or were edited improperly.

Still, a tremendous undertaking! More than most 90s cartoons will likely ever see, I imagine.
