That was uh, not as good as I was expecting it to be.

I mean, it was entertaining, but not really great.

Logan was great.

I mean, reading Old Man Logan was not a waste of time or anything, but it was very two dimensional.

Daredevil Born Again lived up to the hype (Daredevil Season 3 was loosely inspired by it), but many other "classic" graphic novels did nothing for me. The Punisher - Slavers was another good one.

Have you read Batman- Long Halloween and Dark Victory? The story is hit or miss, some Godfather-ish mafia stuff mixed with Gotham supervillainy. Long Halloween ends with a confusing resolution too. The artwork is amazing though. It's a masterpiece of art and atmosphere, though the plot itself has some weak points. I'd say both are worth reading. It's really a 2 part story. And if you want a bit more, there's a third little book, Catwoman- When In Rome, featuring the same artist, but don't bother with it unless you enjoy both TLH and DV.

If you want a more solid story, there's Batman Year One, where it's as much Gordon's story as it is Batman's. Gordon is a badass in it.

I don't know what your bar for well written is, but I quite enjoyed Alias. It's what the Jessica Jones show was based on.

X-Factor Investigations and Runaways are also quite good, but I seem to remember them kinda petering out. I don't know if that's because they actually do or if I just lost interest.

On the DC side, one really underrated miniseries is Arkham Asylum: Living Hell. The premise is that a businessman embezzles from his company's pension fund, robbing nearly every employee and client of their life's savings. He bribes and connives his way into getting the case transferred to Gotham and being judged not guilty by reason of insanity. The judge is furious and as retribution, decides to send this completely sane man to Arkham Asylum. There's very, very little Batman in the series, it's based almost entirely within the asylum.

They do show up along with some other Batman villains, but there's actually more of a focus on villains that are original to that series. All of them actually fit very well into Gotham.

Batman Hush is one of my favorites. Superman Birthright is good too. It's a more modern origin story for Superman.

I thought it was pretty good

i didnt like they how they alluded to Dr Doom being up to something nefarious only for that not to be anything at all really, just an excuse to portray a cool character in the setting

Is it something like "they aspire to be like those A-class criminals" when really they're a bunch of nobodies

No, they're presented the same way as any other. I didn't realize they were one-shot villains until after I read it, I just thought they were extremely minor Batman villains. Like Jane Doe is a serial killer who stalks people, murders them, and then assumes their identities. That just sounds like a Batman villain, but she was first introduced there.
