If you think about this often you should definitely try experimenting with different gender presentations if you're in a life situation where that's a safe thing to do. It'll help you figure out whether it's right for you a lot better than just ruminating about it
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/gender-dysphoria/

if you (or anyone here, not just TC) wants to talk more about how they feel about this, I'm happy to listen and point to more specific resources. Either here or in a PM if you'd rather keep it private.

That would require me to believe there either only two genders, or have an absolute idea of my own gender, which I have neither.

Not really. You can think gender as a social construct is total bullshit and still feel very strongly drawn to the binary gender category that doesn't match your birth sex. I'm genderqueer and identified as a binary trans woman for like ... 2 years before I figured that out. Because even though rationally I was always a gender abolitionist, emotionally I desperately wanted to just be like the other girls (and I still do sometimes).

Sure, I obviously have issues with my body genetic in origin (which I have mostly overcome), but none directly related to my sex chromosomes.

And my gender journey has been me coming to terms with me being "me" and not exclusively traditionally male or female.

yeah to be clear I wasn't quoting you to argue with your perception of your own body and gender identity, I'm sorry if it came across that way.

My point is just that people can simultaneously think "this gender stuff is so silly and reductive. I have no idea what it would even mean for me to be a specific gender" and "god i wanna be a girl so bad". Because one of those is happening at a rational level and the other one is a heavy, unreasoning emotion.

And my gender journey has been me coming to terms with me being "me" and not exclusively traditionally male or female.

I'm happy for you that it sounds like you've reached a place with gender identity stuff that works for you :)

Can't say I do. Even IF I wanted to do or wear things that mostly associate with the opposite gender I'd still consider myself a male.

currently known as male, but have had yearnings to be the other gender when I was much younger. however in the past two years to now, the urges to change are stronger, and I want to change. just in a rough spot right now (living with sister and brother-in-law), and not sure how others would take me telling them.

Life's to short. You should do what makes you happy and others either except it or don't. Living your life just to please other people or in the fear of what others might think seems a miserable existence.

Nah, I'm totally comfortable as the gender I was born.

I am often fascinated by women's fashion and how they have so many more options than men. (That's actually why I chose a female trainer instead of male in Pokemon XY, because it's just so fun making different styles.) But I have no interest in actually wearing women's clothing.

Sometimes yes

This. But then I remember social constructs are made up and don't really matter so it's okay for me, a male, to say, like wine over beer for example. I've never been uncomfortable with my birth body/sex though.

I've mentioned it before, but I strongly considered transition when I was younger and tried social transitioning... but I found out I was happy enough as I am so I just keep my girls in my head.
