Just what every employer hates ... union talk.

People are slowly waking up to what has happened in America since the 1970s.

Back when the GD occurred, unions and other groups met with FDR and said we have too few people controlling a bulk of the wealth, you need to do something.

FDR went to the wealthy and proposed a substantial tax on the wealthiest and the corps of about 70% with the height in the 1950s reaching 90%.

From that tax money FDR began to rebuild the country and put working people to work (unemployment was about 25-30% during the GD) and he did that with Federal Programs known as the New Deal or as some like to call it SOCIALISM. Too much wealth and power in too few hands isn't good for any society or country.

The New Deal gave us: Social Security, Unemployment Insurance, Minimum Wage, Workman's Comp etc etc and that lasted for about 40 years then those people began to resent their high taxation and they began in the 1970s to undo all of those New Deal support systems for working class and poor people and that's where we're at today. None of that had ever existed prior to the New Deal ever in America.

Well, those wealthy people and the corps who opposed it have used their wealth and power since the 1970s to hijack a Court and a political system by loading the Court with pro corporate Justices.

They have squashed Unions and any other resistance to their wealth and power to the detriment of fellow Americans with huge dark money donations and complete control of every branch of the government.

if it's the managers considering it, then it actually has a chance, however slim it may be

Indeed. Firing a few dozen minimum-wage workers is easy. Closing a few dozen franchises, on the other hand, is a much bigger deal.

Youre a smart guy what is it called when someone intentionally oversimplifies or misrepresents something in order to distort the truth?

Modern unions are a scam meant to steal money from the workers

imagine being against unions, especially in this economy where corporations are extremely anti-workers rights

There's probably a specific name, but off-hand all I'm coming up with is calling it a variant of a strawman.

That's pretty much entirely because of the lack of laws to protect them, which creates a corrupt two-tiered system in which only some workers get to join unions and the rest are left unprotected. Even then, that's only true of a relatively small number of industries, despite what the corporate propaganda you're deep throating would have you believe.

The only thing you need to know to know that unions are a good thing is that the corporations that treat their workers worst are deathly afraid of them. Those corporations will do everything to screw you over that they can possibly get away with, so if they're busting unions, you can very safely presume that's a bad thing.

In the UK at least Unions are past their prime, they are themselves often just rich companies that just do nothing themselves and require so much out of your wages each week.

I do wonder how many people here pro-union have actually dealt with one.
The only experience I have with any union was negative and they were definitely of the scam variant.

Is this different in the US? Unions represent all workers, like political parties, you do not have to be a member to be supported by them.

They also offer healthcare, sick and vacation days, and full tuition for a bachelor's degree (online) for part timers. Idk what the hell their employees are on about, especially considering they're also one of the chains that has $15/hr starting. Unions are for the people making minimum wage with no benefits.

If someone is robbing an old lady on the street, and in the middle of it someone else came to rob the same money from the old lady, do you think they would both automatically work together? No, they would fight over who get to steal from the old lady. Same thing with a lot of unions.

I have had two experiences, both were negative. One was my mom working for a textile factory where she was BARELY making above minimum wage, and when she had to file for workers comp the union put all sorts of roadblocks in the way. Comparatively, the company was fine with it. Then about 6 months after she stopped working there the company ended up shutting down.

The other one was the teachers union at my high school that was so corrupt the head of the union was making 5X what all of the other teachers were making. Ended up she just pocketed all the money slated for teacher's raises and was giving out 2% raises to everyone else.

Unions are good in theory, but in practice they really just end up being another corporation that is bleeding you dry. Honestly better to just force regulation on salaries and work conditions through something like OSHA.

i've been in three unions, they've all been fairly forgettable in that i never had to worry about them because they actually did what they were supposed to.

my last union, seiu, was excellent. they constantly got us raises and more health benefits

Way different in the US. Here they're pretty much private organizations. Separate companies with a "non-profit" status.
