To be fair, there are plenty of people who don't necessarily like the "moral message" of The Punisher either, or who definitely feel like it's not a character that kids should be reading about.

I mean, every time Batman goes through one of his darker phases people tend to complain about that as well.

But characters who feel like they're being aimed directly at kids (like Superman and Spider-Man) are always going to be held to a higher standard than someone like the Punisher or Lobo or Preacher or whatever.

The real trick is that most moral guardians don't actually read comic books (just like most SJWs don't read comic books). So they're always going to complain about the stuff that's most obviously in the spotlight to the point where even mainstream audiences are fully aware of it. The more niche a character is, the less professional complainers are going to care about them.

1) I wouldn't consider Punisher a "superhero". What is his super power? Military training? Guns? Kevlar?
2) Punisher has always been an "anti-hero". Yes, he kills bad guys, but none of the other heroes like working with him, and on several occasions work against him.
3) Punisher isn't a role model by any means.
4) With the exception of some time in the late 80-early 90's, Punisher has always been an adult comic even if it isn't branded as such.
5) Unlike the Punisher, most heroes don't kill just to kill. Yea, Batman has killed a bunch of people, but it was always a consequence of how the battle went and not something he was specifically setting out to do. There is a difference between shooting someone in the head, and them slipping and falling off a building trying to run away.
