yeah. its a combination of 2 things

1) Toyota's really keep their value. this thing sold 6 years ago at a MSRP of 24,350
2) the used car market is ABSOLUTE SHIT WHY DID THOSE ASSHOLES HAVE TO TOTAL MY CAR NOW?

Welcome fellow owner! 2018 Rav4 Adventure here. Before the lackluster redesign. Also own an 06 Rav4 with 135k, still purrs, never did more than typical maintenance (oil, brakes, etc.).

But yeah, market prices, ouch.

Not trying to pile on it but, this perceived held value is still a product of the current market. Like the car I totaled this year literally net me a bigger payout than how much I purchased it for.

Understandably this is a short-notice situation that's hard to navigate. I ended up with a brand new Civic with a ~$4.5k mark up. Relatively speaking it was a win because my brother had one and I had this on my radar to possibly have one of my own. Other family situations actually made this pan to be a bigger win because I actually needed a car like this in retrospect.

I managed to get it because I happened to step into the dealer right when they had an unclaimed allocation incoming. Literally total one car one day, and then throw down for the next one the day after.

Real prize is if I could land a new hybrid, but that's a tough buy above most things in this market.
