You had to grate it yourself. And thats whats wrong with America. We used to work hard for what we got. Now we want everything done for us.

Make America grate again!

You're spoiled.

You had a access to a cheese grater? Back in my day, regular folks just had to tear chunks of government issue surplus cheddar apart with their grubby hands.

in 1958, Gentine innovated again. Using a pasta cutter, he cut a block of mozzarella into four-inch strips, and Sargento became the first company to sell family-sized, vacuum-sealed packages of shredded cheese.

So, you were born before 1958?

Freshly grated cheese is so much better that it isnt even funny

when they pre-shred the stuff they coat it with cellulose and starch to prevent clumping but it makes the cheese taste weird and it makes it so it doesnt melt right

you can always tell when a pizza place grates their own cheese because itll be nice and stringy when you pull a slice away

Pearls Before Swine aside, yeah, I learned this the hard way. I was trying to make a basic cheese dip for nachos but couldnt get the consistency right. I tried various brands and even was desperate to try Velveeta. Then I learned of that stupid anti-clumping agent from my friend, and just decided I was too lazy to do it :<
