And by that I mean in battle and not story/events like the Red Gyarados. I've also only played up to the 3DS era's but still doesn't matter with the amount of battles I've taken part in. And yes I've tried the breeding methods, even the one where you get a Pokemon from a different language region and must have breeded around 400-500 Pokemon >_>

My first was Oddish in Fire Red.

In Sword and Shield I've gotten a bunch from raid dens. I have like 3 square shiny tyrantrums.

You must have not played Pokemon Go though. Those things are insanely easy to get on there.

I wouldn't mind coming across a shiny Ratatta at this point. I want at least one :/

Didn't play it too long. Only played it when everyone and their mothers were on that app. I also don't count that as a mainline game.

I actually got pokerus on my file and had no idea what it was and lost it forever. Only found out about that concept years later and pokerus was even rarer than shiny.

My only wild, random shiny was a wild durant in Black. My gf at the time in high school caught a shiny Whiscash in HG I think.

No Friend Safari, fish chaining, Ultra Wormhole, SwSh raid hunting or any others with high shiny rates? Sounds like you don't try hunting for shinies. With breeding, did you have the shiny charm?

I totally forgot about that stuff. The rumors of that virus scared the crap out of me when I was a kid.

I never had until Sun and Moon when I finally managed to hatch a few shinies. Never in battle until Legends Arceus, but it's way easier to encounter shinies there.

I was really hyped about a shiny Tyrogue coming from an egg in Silver until years later I found out about eggs upping the chances of shinies.

You can transfer them into Sword/Shield which is a mainline game. Although once transferred in they cannot come back out at least at the current time. You could also just put them in your Pokemon home and wait to put them in whatever future game you want.

I have played Pokemon Go for less than a year and already have 60 non-distinct shinies and 40 distinct ones.

I've only played up to Pokemon X. Granted I've put in thousands of hours in the older games, but I'm beginning to play through them all again and finally get to the Switch Era.

The only method I used was the breeding ones, in which I was actually hunting for them. But even then I would have thought I'd come across at least one shiny in my lifetime lol

My first was a roselia I gave to my niece. I've probably caught less than 12 since I first started playing Pokemon Red

I caught a shiny Zubat in Arceus yesterday

I've played thousands of hours and have gotten 2. I was nature resetting for Zapdos in leaf green and got one then (this was supposed to be trade fodder for the GTS in gen 4).

The other was a flabebe that I hatched.

I have run into 3.

Eggs in general don't have a higher chance but the one Odd Egg in Crystal you get does have a much higher chance, which is what you're probably thinking of.

Breeding with shiny pokemon in gen 2 can give up to a 1/64 chance of an egg being shiny, as shininess back then was based off of IVs

I got one in the original Gold version and then never saw another.

it was a geodude, it went in the box and never came back out

Clefairy in Lets Go (first Clefairy I found)
Geodude in Lets Go.
Raticate in Lets Go.

i encountered a shiny Zigzagoon on my first 10 encounters in Fire Red and failed to capture it because I accidentally killed it.

I've gotten tons of shiny Pokemon in ultra space.

I only ever got one shiny with full odds. An Onix in Platinum.

I've only had one myself, a Graveler in AS.

Interesting considering you cant get Zigzagoon in FR without trading. @Ricemills

That's true but probably not what he was referring to. But yeah, very useful trick if you can get a Shiny Ditto, which is itself not hard to do because of the well-known Shiny Gyarados mimic trick

My first shiny with Shiny Unown (X) in Diamond... Still have it...

I think I got a Caterpie in Gold (was really young so not sure)

I got a Pidgeotto in Soul Silver (deleted the save before trading like an idiot)

KO'd a Chansey in Sword.

Outside of Lets Go, I think Ive only randomly found one, which was a Ponyta. Ive found dozens that I intentionally went after, usually through eggs.

Got a pink Gligar in Gold I was the only kid with a shiny in middle school

My brother was the same way.....his first shiny came from pokemon sun I believe. He did however managed to get pokerus on his pokemon silver, and he helped me spread it among my pokemon also. We kept it going for years until our pokemon data across my gold and his silver was lost over the years.

I was actually a lucky sob and managed to catch a shiny in 3 games straight. My first was a shiny girafarig in gold, a wingul in ruby, and a murkrow in diamond. I have never found pokerus on my own to this day.

Have you played Sun? I played that for several hours (just past the first island) and caught 2, and I hadn't played pokemon since Gen 1.

Aside from the red Gyarados in Gold/Silver, I've came across one other shiny Pokemon personally.

And it was a freaking Magikarp. Lol.

Only ever found one. A Shiny Snubbull in Y.

Hey I had one of those in Gold, until my cart battery finally died a couple years ago. RIP Shiny Rat.

I've gotten 2 wild ones in leafgreen, 2 wild audino in white + 6 or so random hatched ones between white and black 2, at least 1 wild dexnav chain in AS, a few in Y but those were mostly hordes and safaris and around 10 hatched, some extra hatched in gen 8, 2 in sword in 15 hours and sr'd for a shiny fossil and whatever I've hatched on there.

I started with Black. I think my first shiny was a basculin. Then I think I found a litwick and I think a sewaddle? I also savescummed for a shiny larvesta.
The second game I played was Heart Gold. I found a shiny hoothoot. I think I also found a shiny in the safari zone and it got away and I was pissed. I also savescummed for a shiny ho-oh.
Then I played Pearl and found a shiny machop and a shiny geodude using the Pokeradar.

I think that's all I had before selling all my games.

Not counting soft resets, breeding, Red Gyarados or freebies from wonder trade, and events.

In Pokemon White, I encountered and caught a Shiny Ducklett on Skyarrow bridge, then couple routes later encountered and caught a Shiny Audino.

My wife encountered 3 and I have never met one in the wild. It took me breeding Shroomish to get my own non-event shiny.

I only started encountering shiny pokemon around sun and moon after I had read about them weirdly enough.

Still only encountered like 2 or 3 in the wild since then.

Always wonder if I just wasn't paying attention as a kid though.

Found something like 12 or so randoms total.

With breeding and active shiny hunting I have like 100+. Legends Arceus being one of the biggest sources.

My first was a shiny Geodude in Silver. Can't remember if I had anymore though.
