The soundtrack is what I'm looking forward to the most. Soken is the best composer working in games today.

While I enjoy 7 remake's combat, nothing honestly matters in terms of character progression/build, and unless you're fighting a super boss you can pretty much do whatever.

7 Remake's combat is a lot more unpolished than FFXV's though

FFVIIR's combat is fantastic. I don't care about characters needing to feel unique or whatever.

FFXV's is fun, too, but it rarely lives up to what it could be.

Characters feeling unique is a huge problem that FF7R solved, though! OG FF7's cast largely amounted to different skins for your materia builds, but Remake's approach gave everyone extremely clearly defined niches. (Except Cloud who's rightfully a jack of all trades and Yuffie who's just a god and will probably need to be toned down to not just be the best character by far in part 2.)

Yeah that is what I mean by "too much polish," the mechanics of FFXV are a disaster but Noctis controls extremely smoothly. TOO smoothly because it would be unplayable otherwise. It was all they could do to polish all the edges off and get something decent.

FF7R has weight and heft to it. It's clunky and sorta obtuse but in a good way.

This is not a new genre/style

It's moreso that the gameplay is closer to Witcher than it is to Dragon Age or any of the Ivalice games. It being an action RPG is really all that's making me call it "Offbrand Witcher" rather than "Offbrand Dragon Age".

It doesn't really look like The Witcher to me other than being an action RPG. Barring a few setpiece bosses I don't usually think of The Witcher as similar to DMC.

FFXV's combat = worse Kingdom Hearts

This seems like FF meets DMC (because that's what it literally is).Again, it'll probably be extremely fun and the best entry in the series since X, but it's just not what I personally want from the series. Don't listen to me though, because I'm a literal crazy person who wants them to give a mainline entry to the Octopath/Bravely team. Or Yoko Taro.

Primarily DMC 5, which is by far my favorite so it's incredibly hype. He also helped on DMC 4 but wasn't quite as involved I don't think.

Ryota Suzuki is the combat director on FFXVI. I believe he was the lead combat director on Dragon's Dogma. He was one of the combat designers in DMC5, but not the overall combat director for it. I think he was the lead for one of the characters, maybe Nero? Can't find confirmation tho.

I thought that was Clive at first. Hopefully this game doesn't fall under the same trap that 14 did where most of the main cast has the same hair color.
