3/4 for yes so far is surprising. I'd like to see people's thoughts on the matter.

Still fascinated that the poll results do not reflect the typical discussion of George Lucas on this site or anywhere else on the internet.

I havent really seen Star Wars (I watched one or two as a lad) or read the books. How are the geniotic? They seem like generic space fiction to me

star wars is a cool concept but lucas himself never did anything interesting with it

He's like Miyamoto. Generally, their ideas align to form a very good core that resonates with the audience, but they can randomly get up their own ass about something and just go off track to produce/influence something very meh.

They seem generic today, because they set the new standard in the 70s and 80s.

One good example is before Star Wars, all space flicks had settings where the ships, buildings, and clothing were all shiny and brand new, because futuristic!. Star Wars gave us a world that let us know that even though this is a world with futuristic technology, it has been lived in. The man-made things in his world were old, used, rusty, dilapidated, and worn. He brought a sense of realism to a genre that before, had been full of "shiny" tropes.

Fantastic world builder
I definitely think this is the case. No matter what anyone says, the prequels hold a special place in my heart, because the world building was still amazing. The Disney movies have always come up short in this aspect.

There was that planet covered with salt on the surface, but it just looked like Hoth, and didn't do much other than make pretty contrasts of colors in the battle scene.

Genius??!! Excuse me whilst I laugh at that.

Star Wars is complete shit (I have watched episodes 4 - 6 many times) compared to the utter brilliance that Gene Roddenberry gave us in the far far far superior Star Trek. If anyone is the creative genius in Science-Fiction it is Roddenberry.

Give me the The United Federation Of Planets, Starfleet and The USS Enterprise anyday over the crap Rebels and Empire.

basically, he's great at worldbuilding and making a plot, but he has a lot of issues with dialogue and directing the actors

tbh mainline SW is more of a fantasy in space than sci-fi

Genius might be going too far, but he's very good. If i were making a movie and had a team of of people to help me I'd love to have him on it. I wouldn't give him full free rein though. Despite much of his questionable decisions over the years, he still created the world of Star Wars and partly Indiana Jones too. It's why I could never hate the guy like many fans and was more dissapointed in him. That and he seems like a nice enough guy too. I almost felt bad for him at times.

Idk if genius is the right world but he was bold and brave enough to take the appropriate risks when nobody else was really doing anything that wasn't safe. Movies kind of fell off in the mid 70s. Star Wars brought new life into the whole movie scene and after the success of the franchise George took ILM to new heights and is why interest in advancing movie technologies hasn't slowed down.

He may not be a genius but his influence is still felt in many films to this day

This is fair, in the early days he was also good at creating innovative working spaces.

Guess he just got old, tbh Ive been on the hate train since the phantom menace and was quick to give credit everyone else but him.
