But the real decline is later when the pacing speeds up to absurd levels and the dialogue starts being secondary to big setpiece moments and clumsy plot progression. Granted, even in seasons 6, 7, and 8, there are insanely good visuals and a lot of really good character moments, but the truly brilliant stuff becomes very rare. --- I write Naruto Fanfiction. Season 8 is completely straight up flash over substance and they forget and ignore A LOT of storylines. It also KILLS the character development some characters had. Outraged at the murder of septas/septons, flouting of holy laws such as breaking the guest rights at the Red Wedding, and the burning of septs, they armed themselves as best they could. The High Sparrow - as you might guess by the name - rose to prominence in this movement and eventually became its leader. When the Most Devout were to select a new High Septon, these sparrows stormed in and took over the meeting. They forced the Devout to choose the High Sparrow. He immediately sells the fine gold and jewels that used to decorate the Sept of Baelor and donates the money to the poor, winning over the smallfolk. Cersei notes that he is far more intelligent and shrewd that then previous one, meaning assassination would be more difficult. And if he were assassinated, the sparrows and more religous smallfolk would likely riot. But by far the biggest reason they become an issue is because Cersei is a bonafide, drool-in-a-bucket moron. I forget how it goes down in the show, but in the book the High Sparrow refuses to bless Tommen's coronation. When she goes to him to secure it, he manipulates her into restoring the Faith Militant, a military branch of the church that had been outlawed after they rebelled against the crown about a century and a half before.
