honestly I dont think Oda gets onboard with power scaling and everyone is as weak or as strong as the story demands. Especially the admirals. Their powers vary wildly.

The admirals. They've been portrayed as a step between yonko commander, and yonko. Like the gap between Whitebeard and Marco is huge, but admirals are closer to Whitebeard than to Marco

Crocodile is a weird one. He's a shichibukai that Luffy was able to beat all the way back in Alabasta even though all of the others have pushed Luffy's shit in. Then all of a sudden Crocodile is in Marineford and he's just taking shots at everyone in arm's reach and it's like, where was all this energy the first time?

Remember that haki is described as ambition? I interpreted Crocodile's different shown as having lost and later regaining his ambition after escaping Impel Down.

First Crocodile made it into the New World then had his shit pushed in presumably by White Beard himself. He fell into despair and instead of making himself stronger, he instead looked for a magical macguffin to make up for his weakness. Later after the miraculous escape from Impel Down, Crocodile got his groove back.

Devil Fruits stay with a person until their deaths. So Blackbeard and company have been out murdering people for their fruits.

There has been several hints, but nothing officially stated about blackbeard. One of the possible hints are his flag. That he might already had 2 before he stole the earthquake fruit, the cerberus fruit, and that each 'head' can have a different fruit. Also marco said once that he never saw blackbeard sleep, another possible hint for the cerberus thing, that he keeps switching heads. And another character said that he has a strange body iirc

Well that is the meta reason. Wanna know what the in-universe reason was. Pure overconfidence? If they wanted to showcase pure power in a, "OH man, they won without Garp or Sengoku getting involved" to the world, that makes no sense since they cut off the videp feeds regardless.

In universe it makes no sense. Garp shouldn't have an issue fighting Whitebeard. His grandkids sure, but Whitebeard and his crew?

Whitebeard was dying of like 10 different diseases and still owned Akainu in a 1 on 1, the strongest admiral

in his prime he was the strongest man in the world, even stronger than Roger was (Roger's haki was superior and helped bridge the gap)
