Background:

My wife is up to date on the anime. I watched all of the Marineford Arc with her, as well as the Wano Arc. I caught some things here and there as well, just decided fuck it and figured I would watch all the way through. Currently around episode 394.

At the current, my personal ranking of the crew is as follows:

1. Luffy - I mean, the dude is just awesome. A wonderful mix of kinda childish while ultimately doing the right thing regardless of his own personal reasoning.
2. Robin - Tragic backstory, complex characterization, beautiful lady? Also her devil fruit power is awesome.
3. Chopper - C'mon you stupid idiot, how can you not love him?
4. Brook - I find his version of levity towards the ladies far more fun than Sanji, and his backstory was wonderful. Yohohoho, yo hoho-hooooo!
5. Zoro - Standard badass, love it.
6. Nami - She gets better as the series goes on for sure, though she doesn't crack the top 5 for me currently.
7. Frankie - Cool story arc to introduce him to the crew, but as far as I remember he doesn't really grow after that. He also basically becomes a robot post time-skip
8. Usopp - He got better than the lowest spot and he does get better and better as the show goes on. I could see him popping into a higher spot if they really play up his crafty ability and he becomes a tad bit less of a coward. I want him to become more of a "I know I'm not a fucking god, but I can fight a god" type.
9. Sanji - Honestly, I kinda hate him. I'm vaguely aware of some of his backstory and that he has a pretty good redemption in Whole Cake Arc or whatever it is called, but then it feels totally tossed aside again in Wano. I get it, he is chivalrous. It's annoying and it is done to such a degree it bothers me. =/

Currently in Sabaody, Raleigh just knocked out that auctioneer guy with his Conquerer's Haki. Raleigh, yeah!

my ranking would be

1. zoro - i adore him
2. luffy - hilarious and awesome
3. nami - i like the climatact as a weapon
4. robin - yeah great backstory and cool powerset she just pretty much never gets any 1 on 1 fights
5. ussop - he is funny and its nice seeing him stand up and fight despite being the weakest crewmember and the most terrified of every situation they find themselves in
6. vivi - yeah i consider her and honorary strawhat and i miss her
7. franky - he likes soda pop, i like soda pop
8. chopper - im not the biggest fan of mascot characters but he is adorable
9. brooke - i just never connected with him the way i have the other characters
10. sanji - yeah i cant stand him. ever since he was willing to let robin die than fight a woman even though she wasnt exactly a weakling and was evil. that didnt come of as chivalry it came off as idiocy

The first time that Law, Kid, and Luffy team up. ^_^

Holy shit, Kuma vs. Kid and Law? I feel like at this point even if Luffy was involved I don't think they have a realistic shot against Kuma.

This arc is pretty darn good. I wasn't a big fan of Skypeia in all honesty (bad villain), Water 7 was alright, and Thriller Bark was fun (though it made me hate Sanji even more). Sabaody has been excellent thus far.

Love that Rayleigh was willing to tell Robin about the missing history but was like, "Holy shit you aren't really ready to hear it. Shit is gonna get crazy, you got some growing up to do"

Also, even with all my knowledge of the series I don't really know what Kizaru's ambitions are. He seems to just kinda be a yes-man at times and a shit disturber at others. He doesn't seem to express much opinion about the government, the celestials, even the role of the marines.

He's the most interesting marine to me. He kinda strikes me as a Gin Ichimaru type, if you've seen Bleach. Enigmatic, chaotic, very strong, nobody knows what he's really thinking.

He seems a lot more like Akainu in terms of dick-headery than someone like Aokiji. Just going off of his Japanese VA work, he usually talks like he's lazy but then sounds really menacing when he decides to do something.

you're the reason I started buying the manga. I bought all four released boxsets and decided to read them through again.

So far I have 3 of the 4 here. The 2nd one is going to show up late but I'm pretty excited to re-read them all. I'm on volume 11 at the moment.

Also I've been getting so many spoilers for new issues of the manga on Facebook I've just kinda given up and I'm willing to be spoiled on post-Wano stuff.

you must be following a bunch of One Piece pages like I do lol. I see spoilers all the time as well. I'm always going to be behind because I'm either reading the translated manga volumes or watching the anime which I'm still not caught up on. I try not to read TOO much into the spoilers...I try to avoid as much as possible lol

Are Logia types normally impossible to hit and they have to think to become solid? Or the other way around?

It had been soft introduced a few times before this.

-Shanks using it on the Sea King
-Enel's Mantra
- Garp beating on Luffy
- it could be argued Captain Kuro used it on Luffy back in Usopp's arc. He kickes Luffy in the face and Luffy took damage from it.

Haki seems to be something he cobbled together from different things he had previously used rather than something specifically planned out and foreshadowed.

Nami uses haki whenever she beats up luffy

Its kinda up in the air. Theres one scene where Luffy smashes into Ace and Smoker in Alabasta and takes them by surprise, but its also a gag scene. But for the most part Logia intangibility seems like auto-defence. At the chapter we are currently at it hasnt been defined either way and I imagine it never will be

Definitely wasnt explained. I dont think youre supposed to know what Haki is yet. It just becomes more prevalent during the next few arcs. Youll know when youre supposed to know what it is. What Null posted is technically a minor spoiler but really Doesnt matter

Like I said at the start, I've watched all of Wano with my wife. I'm fairly familiar with Haki and Flow at this point. No worries.

We are gonna catch up on the other members of the crew now.
