I've only played like 4 hours before a couple years ago

Doesn't it have a tutorial? I don't remember it being hard to pick up

I find that when I want to learn to play a new game, its easiest to get into it when I find a youtuber playing it who I enjoy watching.

First thing to do is learn what mood breaks are and ways to keep your pawns happy. The easiest way to do this is to look at the needs tab and look at the negative moodlets. At the beginning it is simple stuff like wants to eat at a table, it looks like shit around here, I dont have a bed. Your big mood positives early game is going to be low expectations. Expectations are determined by colony wealth, so the wealthier your colony gets the better they will want to be treated

In general, the game is a wealth management simulator. All the raids are calculated based on how much your colony is worth with some modifiers. So if you dont want your colony wrecked by a horde of whatever the storyteller decides to send you, dont hoard things. It might feel nice to turn all the stone chunks into bricks and clean up the map or mine that whole steel vein or stock enough food for 10 years, you are going to have to have the combat ability to defend it.

Don't sleep on the nutrient paste dispenser like I used to. Unless you're having trouble keeping colonists happy it's so much better than prepared meals.

War crimea are not necessary you have complete control of the story and the dev cheats are at your fingertips

Play for 100 hours, say fuck it and download the android mod so you can play with pawns that eat for fun and not for survival

The game is also insanely moddable.

Yea but I'm pretty sure most of the fun is from the war crimes

Also why would you want to use cheats? That ruins the fun of most games.

Without committing war crimes you might as well be playing The Sims.
