I was going to play the game but someone spoiled it and said Arthur dies and you play as someone else.

Is it true and should I even bother playing it now ?

Arthur was kind of cool, but then you remember he had been running with the wrong kind of people, doing and enabling some fucked up things, and that it had to catch up with him someday. Kind of like Joel from The Last of Us. Don't know why some people get so upset over the suffering and deaths of people who while weren't all bad, gave into evil and did terrible things to their fellow man and ended up bringing misfortune upon themselves.

@BignutzisBack don't read DarkBuster's spoiler

Finish the game. You have no idea what you're in for. I had it spoiled for me too. I was pissed. It still ruined me. Play it. Savor it. Let beats linger. Spend time in the world. Then beat it.

i think even knowing the spoiler would make it worth playing. on that note, the fact that arthur didn't even exist in the first game should be a huge hint on its own that he's not going to be around.

I didnt read any spoilers ITT, if I had to guess I think John will be the person you control after. That wouldn't be so bad if true since he's the main character in the original

The joy is in the adventure, not the destination. If that's enough to turn you off a piece of media, just get off the internet entirely and forever. Also grow up. Knowing stuff like this was the norm for those of us just old enough to remember the back-of-book and back-of-the-vhs-cover blurbs. Shit, there's probably people old enough here to remember "I am your father" being in the trailer.

Even longer than that. For the better part of human history, fictional stories, plays, poems, etc all had foregone conclusions. They'd be based on stories that everyone already sort of "knew" through cultural osmosis, or the chorus, such as in Romeo and Juliet, Oedipus Rex, or Antogone, would tell you the outcome outright; the point of the story wasn't the conclusion itself, but rather what happened to bring about said conclusion.

The fixation with avoiding spoilers and keeping the "surprise" factor intact is actually a pretty damn recent cultural phenomenon. That said, I won't blame anyone for ascribing to it; we all enjoy media in our own ways. But it is something of a modern oddity.

This.

It's tragic stories like in RDR2 that stand out at the end. Was I sad when I realized that he'll die? Sure I was! But sometimes events like these are necessary to evolve the plot.

Same with Joel/TLOU2, or with Ned Stark/GoT.

Some people just can't handle a mature story anymore. I'm so glad that there are still writers out there doing their own business/story, instead of listening to what others say. If everything always happened the way so-called fans wanted, every story would be an egocentric, boring, predictable and uninspiring fairy tale with a happy ending.

Emotional moments do hit harder when you don't expect it. Twist endings also get ruined via spoilers. Like metal Gear solid V where you find out the truth regarding venom. Which pissed me off cause it was spoiled for me in the top comment on a video that had nothing to do with the plot of the game. Just a walk through video for a optional task early game.

Also seen star wars spoilers just posted purely for the shits and giggles on Facebook and even the comment section on a article about cooking. Spoilers are fine and well if it's kept to certain conversations. Like In public I'll ask someone if they've played a game or seen a movie before I start throwing plot points out. I'll also ask if they care about spoilers.

Here it's just too easy to use spoiler tags
