I feel some way about this but I'm not sure what yet. Super elderly? Fine. People caring or on vacation with super elderly? Fine. Disabled/sick? Fine.

Anyone else should be walking up those stairs. Heaven forbid there was a fire down there, the only way out now is the stairs.

We have a search and rescue team standing by as well as a hoisting apparatus to lift people out if the repairs take longer than expected or if people are not comfortable staying down there, Paxton said.

Why not just do this now?

So they're down there and so are the staff of the restaurant and motel? Sounds like even if they can't take the stairs, it's only really traumatic in the sense that adapting to the lack of sun takes many people by surprise and can cause anxiety.

But are the staff having to work down there because the elevator is broken? Same staff every day or do they switch out by causing new staff to walk up and down the stairs? Shouldn't the hotel just be closed? Lift the people out and be done with it.
