This. It wouldn't make sense to just toss all of the shoes they already produced.

So they're going to rebrand them and not give any of the money to Kanye. Seems fine to me.

So then do they really have an issue with what Kanye did? Seems odd to drop someone but then continue to profit off that person, youd think if they really had an issue theyd burn all the products they have and move forward.

Last year, $2 billion of their revenue came from Yeezy's. Of course they're not going to just set billions on fire. They're still a business lol.

But it still shows that they had an issue with Kanye's comments. Cutting him out of the picture hurts them. A big part of the interest came from the fact that Kanye designed the shoes. But now they can't lean on that anymore and their profit is definitely going to drop.

That's not weird at all. They don't want Kanye's name associated with them anymore, so rebranding makes perfect sense. Why would they just scrap the designs and all the other work they put into the shoes?

because this has never happened before any other time deals have been broken/ended the company didnt instantly announce they where gonna continue to make them.

when Kobe died, nike didnt need Vanessa to keep making them and they probably would of keep making them regardless.

but announcing youre gonna rebrand them and keep making them in the same statement you cancel him is is weird

Doesnt really show they have an issue with his comments though. If they had an issue with the comments then theyd scrap the shoes, take the loss, and hope people stay with adidas or come to adidas. Still selling his shoes just shows they dont want to make people mad and they only care about money. It has nothing to do with having an issue with what he said.

Kobe dying isn't the same as this situation at all. The point here is to distance themselves from a toxic person, while still recouping some of the losses.

Celebrities having shoes is a marketing thing anyway. It's not like he was working under Adidas for years as a shoe designer. I doubt he did anything more than say "I like this one" when given a bunch to choose from.

I only used Kobe as a notable an example of someone being able to still make the shoes after they contract ends.

changing the shoes name doesnt mean they wont be tied to him still, they just wont have any legal/financial ties.

everyone will still call them Yeezys

and rebranding them immediately means you dont really care if people still connect the brands, you just need the money and dont care long as YOU are making the connection.

thats what it used to be like, but Kanye is pretty well known for having a hand in all the main designs, even if he didnt directly design them.

like the 10 or so staple Yeezys. All came from a direct collab effort of hand pick by ye adidas designers (most of which where former nike designers) and Ye himself

I don't see a problem with that... They own the designs and the shoes. They've only announced they will no longer use the Yeezy brand.

They can still sell their shoes that they own without using Yeezys name, and Ye gets no money. What's the problem?

If you're not willing to bankrupt your company over something you had no control over you don't really care.

That said, I'm sure they don't really care, but be reasonable.

Who said anything about bankrupt them? Id think a company like adidas isnt just relying on one persons shoes for the entire company. Id hope not.

I dont know, everyone congratulating adidas and they really didnt do anything. Kanye has been wanting out of adidas for a little while now, hell file some lawsuit and get a bunch of money and then start doing full time with his Donda brand.
