Personally I am not really into the "Cinematic Universe" stuff nowadays, but I am still very into comic book movies in general, and this is about as good a choice as they could get.

Crazy to think what a domino effect Marvel firing him years ago had, even though they recanted I doubt we'd be here if they hadn't.

It came out on streaming the second week in the height of the pandemic and was the second biggest simultaneous movie/HBO Max release that Warner Bros were doing and was only beaten by Mortal Kombat. And then it did better than both Wonder Woman 84 and Zack Snyder's Horrible Hero Team Up.

"Dark and brooding," is not the problem with the DC movies at this point. The "dark" movies are the Snyder Trilogy, Suicide Squad, and then Batman and Joker which people actually think are good.

Then there's like at least 6 movies that are neutral to light hearted, or edgy but goofy like TSS and Harley Quinn. That's 50/50!

The Suicide Squad was decent. Solid step below both Guardians films. Peacewalker is amazing though. Not sure he's the guy to be leading the whole show tbh. Not to shine the LMS signal or anything but the DCEU is a disaster anyway. i'm sure they're going to try some Crisis on Infinite Earth shenanigans to merge the universes or something but I couldn't care less about seeing Pattinson fight Affleck or whatever. I'd rather they just do a massive recasting of everybody and just start again.

It was not a flop given the metrics they were going by in unprecedented times of simultaneous releases during a pandemic. If it's a flop then literally every other movie that was released in this way was a flop. Because neither movie made their money back at just the box office, but Suicide Squad did about 4 times the amount that MK did at the box office, and got a lot closer to breaking even with their heightened budget.

More people were willing to watch MK on demand than they were Suicide Squad, if anything.

i enjoyed the suicide squad when i saw it in theaters but i guess it's a "turn your brain off" movie, because the more i thought about it afterwards, the less i liked it.

amanda waller's employees turning on her because "CHILDREN WILL DIE" after they literally established that weasel killed 27 kids was dumb as hell.

I dont see the issue here. It makes sense for people who dont like child murder to be ok sending a child murderer on a suicide mission.

that's assuming that amidst all the chaos of the mission, they're paying enough attention to weasel to kill him off before he does something he's not supposed to be doing, though. seems like a pretty big risk to take with a creature as unhinged as weasel.

aside from that, it just seemed weird to me that after we saw that these people don't care at all about killing innocent people for the entire movie, they're like "see, we ARE good people! we still care about children!" (as if that makes them so much less immoral than waller). it felt very tonally inconsistent to me.
