Like, it's the jumping and diving that's hard and satisfying even if the rest of the game is kinda easy

Powerblade is a good challenge and fun. Not the hardest but you definitely need some planning and skill.

The rest of the game should be kind of easy? And are we discounting shitty/buggy games? Those are usually the hardest games but not for reasons anyone would praise them for.

I can't really think of one that had hard platforming but didn't also have difficulties in other aspects (combat, for example) because the systems in old games tended to be tightly interconnected for simplicity's sake.

... I guess Super Mario Bros 2 (lost levels)? Though that's probably the most obvious and boring answer. Mario games absolutely focus mostly on the platforming, so...

If you're considering juggling combat while platforming to be just platforming, then... one of the Ninja Gaiden games maybe? Uh... I remember playing a TMNT game on the NES that was hella difficult. Castlevania 3 can be really unforgiving of miscalculations, especially if you aren't familiar with it.

If you're just looking for something new, have you played Journey to Silius? Not a particularly hard game but the OST is phenomenal.

there's nothing new on the NES for me (fake brag)... nah, someone on reddit wanted more games with hard satisfying platforming like BATMAN and cuz I'm overly familiar with most games I don't have any objectivity

sure. even though Ninja Gaiden 3 isn't as popular, it introduced vertical segments and removed 'dem dang birds' (replacing them with much larger robot drones.... but they're easier to hit)
