It's only the super revolution fetishizing leftists who love guns. I mean I wish there was some sort of revolution too but I don't know if we'd really get there because if there's one thing the government is always effective at, it's crushing the left.

Personally I think the idea of being "anti-gun" is a strawman anyway, most people just want reasonable restrictions and less zealotry

they're adjacent enough in america, to the point where if one is 16% the other can't possibly be 50%+

"leftist" isn't exactly an objective criteria that's easy to poll

either way, 69% of americans period don't own guns, so you're not gonna wrangle a 50%+ value out of anything but conservatives or rural citizens

I hate handguns, but i LOVE rifles

I like guns as much as the next guy or girl, but obviously that doesnt mean there shouldnt be rational and strict gun laws.

I'm in a country where ideally no-one has a gun, and realistically only a few percent of us have guns, and we have strict gun-laws, and in comparison to the USA, very very few gun deaths. Although pretty much every country in the world has low gun deaths compared to the USA.

I believe most folks in the USA, both left-wing as well as right-wing, are very much in favor of reasonable rational gun laws.

Well Trudeau just took our handguns for no reason, so that may be one reason. No reason = reason.

Same reason his dad took our full-autos. No reason, that we can surmise.

Actually no reason was given in my country for automatics to be banned in 1977, and no reason has been given to suspend the sale or trade of handguns between legal, registered owners this month. Outside of Trudeau being a sociopathic tyrant.

Edit: Yes, but a knife has multiple every-day purposes. The purpose of a gun is to kill.

Edit: Yes, but a knife has multiple every-day purposes. The purpose of a gun is to kill.

The purpose of a firearm tool is to survive. Some people use it to murder. Someone people use stairs to murder. Some people use a hammer or a screw-driver to murder. Guns are currently made for practice or real-life survival; to hunt. Any other activity is not endorsed by anyone with half of a brain. I suspect youve never been around a firearm, only seen MSM propaganda, or youd have a different opinion.

You are totally entitled to your opinion, regardless of where on the bad/good scale it resides.

Do you not realize you are personifying the hysteria of the right here? The left has never proposed banning all guns. The left has no issues with hunting whatsoever. The left proposes restricting guns with high-capacity magazines/etc that are designed for military-esce purposes, and the right is strenuously objecting. Why object to that if true sporting guns are left completely alone? Why object to functional background checks?

anti-gun=/=anti-2nd. when someone says dems are anti-gun they are mainly referring to their support of the second amendment and what that amendment actually stands for (hint: its not about hunting). things like AR's and by extension magazine capacities would fall into that based on the concept of the 2nd. with that so would many other things technically too of which many people on the right are also against or wont bat an eye to while spouting bullshit towards dems.

personally, i dont trust either when it comes to firearms, but i REALLY dont trust dems on them. actual leftists are more for those types of gun ownerships, but where they falter is that they dont want those who they disagree with (which can be a hell of a long list) to not have them while they sit high and mighty.

Im from Canada, so its already as strict as it needs to be. Ive always supported limiting the 2A to a privilege. Felons cant obtain firearms legally. Everyone else still can. My issue is the recent ban on handguns that took place that only affect registered owners. Thats complete garbage.

I'm having a little trouble following, but you are correct to point out that the 2nd amendment is talking about militias and not hunting. You're also correct to point out that the text ambiguously allows "arms" (at least I think that's what you're saying) which would have required interpretation even back in 1791. It's unlikely the idea was ever to allow private citizens to own military frigates, for example.

In today's world it absolutely requires interpretation. It's silly to think a private citizen could own an nuclear or chemical weapon, but in theory the 2nd amendment allows that just as much as it would a gun. Point being: absolutism makes no sense and a line must be drawn. Everyone agrees hunting is allowed, even if the right likes to pretend the left opposes it. Everyone agrees nuclear weapons aren't allowed.

I would debate where the line is, but frankly the US missed its chance to clarify this (should have done so around the Civil War). Now that guns are everywhere anyways...what difference does it make? We are going to have to learn why this is a bad idea the hard way (and why reality matters more than an awfully-written, 200-yr-old sentence).

I don't have to.try again. Japan has one of the lowest crime/murder rates in the world, and the stats between the USA and countries who do have rational/strict gun laws, speak for themselves.

You can only go so far into interpretation when the 2nd amendment isnt about hunting and with what the amendment is actually supposed to stand for (which really shouldnt be up for interpretation). At a point its going to involve having to get rid of the amendment all together to proceed.

A functioning society should clarify it, yes, but as I said we missed our chance. We're no longer functioning on that level.

We're stuck with an amendment that says something to effect of "armed militias are allowed" and we have to fight about what that means in the context of all non-militia-related gun issues. And broadly allowing armed militias probably isn't a good idea in the first place.

There are already mandatory background checks in place when you buy a gun, be it semi-auto or not. This is dishonest.
