If it encourages the cult of fat, there's definite reason to complain. The lessons regarding fat people should be limited to not making fun of them and that they don't have to be ashamed while they are fat, but that healthy choices should be heavily encouraged to get down to a healthy weight. If it's anything other than that, it'll be a horribly damaging piece of fiction.

It always amazing how left-leaning people will rightfully sound alarm bells over Covid and do the right thing about it, and then in the same breath promote positive attitudes towards obesity and denounce all science and doctors about it. Heart disease is literally the leading cause of deaths in the US and we want to encourage it.

Mortal Kombat is not made for children or advertised for them.
This movie is targeted for children and it's goal is to normalise what is actually a debilitating health problem especially in kids.

It depends on the narrative. My guess would be that she's simply trying to be a ballerina irrespective of her weight, all the kids make fun of her so she fails, some uplifting nonsense, she's the center of attention in a generic finale where everyone claps at the end and nothing actually changes with her lifestyle. If they actually focus on why she is fat and something encourages her to lose weight, that'd be fine. They don't even need to end with her being thin, just less fat.

Either way, body dysmorphia and the eating disorders that stem from it are a lot more dangerous than just being fat. Obviously, neither is ideal, but the latter is obviously preferable to the former.

I mean, take just a small moment and try to put yourself in their shoes. It takes a lot of effort and time to loose weight and estabilish a new set point. It's active psychological and physical effort, every day, where almost no progress is observable on even the timescale of weeks. And throughout it you have people all around you calling you a lazy peice of shit with bad morals for being fat. How long could you keep it up? Do you think you'd be able to keep it up longer if your everyday environment wasn't as hostile towards your existence?
