RE for me is my favorite.

I generally don't care for the horror genre; in my experience they tend to overdo the gimmick, and the games are visually just too damn dark for me.

Half-Life would probably be the closest to qualify; for the jumpscares it had, and the fact it was one of my favorite FPSs of the 90's.

dead space 1+2 were really good

Dark Souls to the extent that could be considered horror (deja vu someone telling me it isn't)

lately played Roblox Doors which is technically horror though it's for kids; it's not bad for a kids' game

Back in college, the horror games that really kind of scared the shit out of me were Clock Tower and Fatal Frame.

The problem is, if you play enough horror games, you start to get desensitized. My first time through Resident Evil 2 creeped the fuck out of me. But at this point I'm not sure any game in RE can unnerve me at all (jumpscares don't count).

og silent hill ruined most horror games that came after it for me, but dead space, amnesia, and outlast were all really fucking good.

left 4 dead and dead rising aren't horror or scary, though. i'd put the last of us on the list before them, and i hate that game.

I've played a few good ones, but Soma is easily my favorite.

Dark caves and the like in Final Fantasy XV.

I don't play scary games.

I don't tend to play them so don't really have a favorite. I think I'd love Fatal Frame if I ever play them though.

Not usually a fan of horror, but Eternal Darkness was great.

Of all time, has to be Amnesia: The Dark Descent. I never really cared about horror games until I played that. It also changed up the horror game genre when it was being dominated by action games. From more recent years Mundaun and Devotion are two of my favorites. Mundaun is set in a rural Swiss town and all dialogue is in the local language and it's based on local folklore. It also has a unique aesthetic with grayscale pencil-drawn style textures. Devotion is a Taiwanese game also based on local folklore, about cult fanaticism. It's like the best of Layers of Fear and PT combined, but better than both of those games.
