iirc they made a statement saying that c.o.d. will always be on PS as long as it exists, but there is no written agreement right?

Microsoft will offer it via Game Pass.
Sony turns it down.
Microsoft: "We tried"

They'll keep it on playstation for the remainder of Sony's Activision deal which I think is another 3 years then they probably try to pull something

yeah it still sells like crazy, think Modern Warfare II is breaking sales records although it could be just sales. You just dont really hear about it much because gaming in general has gotten so big.

I think they probably see it as about the same strength as Minecraft and probably just keep it on Sony consoles because the install base is so high there

Yes, it's usually the best or at least second-best selling game of the year in the US, and it comes out every year, so it's a huge number of recurring sales.

I meant inflation, whoops my bad

though an extra 10 bucks or so isn't really gonna mask the price (and plenty of people still just have last gen consoles)

it is still a very popular franchise, especially among the youth.

It is worth noting that cross-gen titles have been selling much better on the newer consoles, particularly during the first couple months of release. Unit sales of MW2 are lower than they were for MW1 in the UK though. Not sure what records it's supposedly breaking. Maybe something to do with MTX?

MW2 just had the biggest launch of the series ever on the PS store, so it's probably not going anywhere for awhile.

I mean seriously what does this even mean

"Does the best selling game every year really even matter for the games industry?"

It matters enough that Sony is doing everything they can to make Microsoft out to be the bad guy for buying Activision
