I fell in love with sushi and had to learn how to make it to afford the habit. It's not quite the same as a professional place but it's so much cheaper and does the job.

Yeah sushi can get hella expensive. There's an all you can eat place near me that's pretty good at $36~. Worth it if you get at least three rolls but they have hella apps too

There's a sushi place about 5 minutes from me. Their rainbow rolls are great but their dumplings are the best I've ever had

i'm pretty lucky that one of the foodbanks my family has been going to has sushi sometimes. it is good quality sushi too, Kikka brand from Whole Foods. it is way too expensive for us to be buying. some of the packs of 8 rolls have pricetags of like 16-18 bucks on them.

IMO when it comes to sushi you really can't go wrong with just sashimi. I'm a simple man, give me a simple dish. None of that saucy or avocado California roll bullshit. Just the pure flavor of sliced fish on sushi rice. Pretty sure I've even had some kind of eel sushi once, I remember it tasting better than it looked.

Buy a sushi mat and start making your own. You get better with practice. Trick is to put Saran Wrap on the mat and then the stuff you are rolling. Makes rolling it easier.

I make sushi once a week.
