There was a topic on Reddit recently about how one of the stupid microtransaction keychain things was more expensive than if you'd bought the same keychain from Blizzard's merchandise store, lol. That's when you know ya dun goofed on the price model.

there was also a video explaining the different games that are F2P but aren't as scummy as overwatch 2. i think they referenced fortnite and how that is a lot better

It really sucks and like twice a month they have to remove a character because of bugs.

because it's the only content, now. you get drip-fed the absolute most paltry pittance of items over hours of playing if you don't buy the premium pass and exp boosters. just because something's optional doesn't mean it isn't still terrible

So to be clear your stance is that the game isn't very fun to play and so the cosmetic unlockables are necessary to make it worth playing. The rewarding part is unlocking cosmetic items for the game that you don't enjoy playing.

That's stupid.

i never said i didn't enjoy playing, i said it isn't fun enough to fritter away hours and hours with nothing to show for it

i can't really think of any games at all that are purely fun enough on their own merits to justify having no content to speak of, especially a pvp game

Multiversus is in a similar boat. The gameplay is fun but most collectables are locked behind a currancy you can only buy with cash, but for some reason are horribly overpriced.

And a battlenpass that requires excessive grinding over the course of weeks to complete.

The game is the content. If you're having fun then you're not 'frittering away' hours and hours any more than you are in other games. If you're not having fun then I don't see why the prospect of unlocking some cosmetic items should entice you to keep playing.

once again, i didn't say i don't have fun. like any normal person, i get bored after a while of doing the same thing over and over with no sort of accomplishment, something to earn, something cool to use, positive reinforcement. there's nothing StUpiD about it, otherwise no games would have any sort of customization or progression. people like this stuff. hell, it's why the game's so over-monetized now.

there's a balance to be struck between gameplay and content, that's a reasonable way of putting it

what on earth are you talking about? you can see elims, deaths, healing, and damage blocked on the scoreboard whenever you want

you can't see objective time but caring about objective time is trolling. i'm not sure if this post is sarcastic

What are you on about? Don't recall objective time, but the rest is available

Game is trash, honestly. It's worse than literally all of its competitors now, but it'll still be the top dog because it's the most well known.

Balance on characters is awful, ttk is literally all over the damn place, characters are legitimately broken and pulled out of the game on the regular due to interactions they just didn't fucking check for some reason, and it has probably the worst battle pass and monetization I have ever seen.

Unless you have a squad of friends who play it, there's literally no reason to play it at all. Even then, you'd probably have more fun playing anything else.

They should've released it as a separate game you mean, because what happened was legitimately just an update.

My old account is worth at least $7,500 by now.

They took a greedy, abusive system and replaced it with something far worse. At least if you saved up your coins you could get at least one or two legendary skins an event. It would take about that much play time to unlock a legendary skin from a battle pass that itself needs to be saved for (or bought with real money). The changes to the core gameplay are merely a patch and not actually close to being worthy of titled a sequel, especially when it literally updated the old game on people's systems and pcs. They didn't even launch it with the PVE which was their excuse for making a sequel. It's just a blatant cash grab that made a worse situation with a game that was ignored for 3 years and not given balance changes or new content or characters. This all is just... Ugh. Oh, and the quality of life changes for OW1 are mostly removed. So yeah. I played for 2 afternoons and called it good.

I would like to take this opportunity to preach about the battle pass system in Deep Rock Galactic. (again)

It's a free seasonal content which typically stretches to about 4 months in which you can progress at a normal rate by just playing or getting a slight boost by doing the daily challenge (typically about an hour+ to complete). You can stack up to 3 daily challenges which can be completed concurrently if they share the same parameters. You can even change the challenge once a day if the tasks are not to your preference.

Rewards are credits/resources & 100% cosmetics like weapon & armor skins, victory taunts and beards. You can even choose what reward you want.

Best part is if you can't complete the season in time, whatever cosmetic you missed will be rolled into the main game so you can still earn them through the existing mechanics, but on a random chance.

Season 2 has come to an end and the next season will be up by Nov 3. I'm expecting a sale to coincide with S3 release so wishlist it now and wait for a day.

Gameplay is great, everything else is worse than OW1.

Still preferable to most of these other FPSes.

I'm having a blast and the fucking battle pass is ten dollars ffs games usually cost sixty to seventy.

oh gee wiz, wow great, it's only 10 dollars to be put on a time limit to hurry up and grind out matches for battle pass XP before the season's up.

the price isn't the point, the entire concept is absurd, and they're preying on some kind of "i don't want to miss out" mentality, except their idea of tantalizing paid content is sprays and voicelines, lol. the lootboxes should have stayed and remained free for ranking up because overwatch never had good enough cosmetics to justify paying real money for anyway.

there's no reason to get pissy and defend this game. you can enjoy playing it while also admitting they're playing the players with the transition to F2P

As people have said, the gameplay is exactly the same. If you liked it before you'll probably still like it now.

The only thing that has changed in any significant way is the extreme monetization of cosmetic items. I never buy skins in video games anyways but it was nice to be able to unlock them from time to time.

bring back two tanks and lootbox rewards

The Battle Pass rewards suck though.

It also doesn't give you any in game currency, like most other Battle Passes do.

Medals and the cards were fine, but I'd rather not deal with them. They were never accurate in telling how well someone was actually performing

Sure, Lucio has gold heals but was he effectively switching to speed boost, did the gold healing Mercy just yellow beam all game or was her damage boosting respectable as well because if not she's bad

Also gameplay is not the same. The loss of the second tank has made things very very focused on burst damage that support can't keep up with a lot of the time

By gameplay I mean the core mechanics of the game. Movement, aiming, firing, abilities, ultimates, maps, etc are all still the same as they were in OW1 (with a few minor changes).

But yea, the team format is different which changes the strengths/weaknesses of certain strategies and hero's. But the game still plays exactly as it did before.

Im already level 85 and thats all solo queue. You absolutely do not have to grind to finish the battle pass in time.

what else could i have possibly meant by "see who had the most x, x, x, etc" in the context of things that were removed from OW1? and i even used a metric the scoreboard didn't track, that you yourself mentioned it didn't track, so you had opportunities to think about what i meant before assuming i'm the one that must be wrong before it could ever be you

Normally I would agree with you, because for other games you're 100% correct.

BUT. Overwatch had a heart and soul like no other multiplayer shooter, and had such a wide fanbase, mainly because they included all this cosmetic/free unlockable stuff that was slow but fair to unlock.

Sure it was "optional," but it was very much a large part of player engagement, and even their own marketing.

To gut that and replace it with the jacked up system they've implemented is to alienate a huge chunk of their fanbase.

Even as someone who played OW1 way past when I had unlocked everything I wanted (and they stopped adding new stuff), I can still understand that the game feels so soulless now.

Will it be the reason I stop playing? Probably not, if anything the fact that there's one less tank on a team will be (for many reasons.)
Do I still understand why everyone is complaining? Absolutely. You'd be kinda silly not to.

I think I'd like the battlepass stuff In Overwatch 2 if it wasn't SUCH A SLOG OF A GRIND to move through it.

Oh and Id take the its the same game comments on this board with a grain of salt. Some guy was saying that a week or two ago and he didnt even play OW1 enough to know what abilities the heroes had

Yes it fucking sucks. I was hyped because some ppl I know we're hyped but I'm so fucking done with blizzard. I regret buying the 40 dollar battle pass pack thing. That was money wasted for sure.

Y'all are silly, but I'll clarify further anyway.

Gameplay = mechanics of the game and the objectives of the match
Way the game plays = strategies and team compositions. Most people refer to this as the meta.

Most people don't care if you interchange these phrases, but it's always better to use the correct terminology imo.
