Having to walk past so many environmental items I can't do anything with yet that I'm wondering if I missed some optional upgrade. If not then the game appears to want me to essentially backtrack through its entirety from start to finish at some point.

the first game did this also I thought (another reason that game secretly sucks)

it's a worrisome trend, like when aloy in horizon tells you how to solve the puzzle as soon as you enter a room

Ironically there was a moment I passed recently with the poison bulbs you have to frost, where the tip they give you is "It's just like the first game!" and then they....don't tell you what to do.

No, I replayed it recently. It may have had characters telling you hints from time to time but not this.

I'm about 10 hours in and enjoying this game so far but it does feel a LITTLE too similar to the previous game so far. I'm sure they'll start to mix things up eventually but I'm not feeling any major gameplay improvements or differences compared to the first game yet.

Im really enjoying it myself. Anyone else playing on Give Me God Of War? Its uh, really tough!! I might have to switch to the next difficulty down lol

I've actually switched to easy mode because they've just piled on way too much optional shit at this point, which has caused me to just want to do done if it and mainline the rest.

I started here as well and it was a little too much. Dying in 2 hits during random encounters was getting a little old. So I did drop down to the next level but sad to say it feels too easy compared to Give me God of War. I am still dying sometimes but I do wish there was a middle ground between the two.

I always just play games on the default setting. Don't mind gameplay being the same because it was great and it's a direct sequel.

I went with Give Me No Mercy since I had played the previous game enough.

Yeah it's essentially the same game just with more bloat. It's giving me Horizon Forbidden West vibes. Although I gave up on that game pretty quickly, I'm at least intrigued to see where Ragnarok's story goes if nothing else.

But this game has truthfully been more frustrating than fun for me... ESPECIALLY the time spent in Jotunheim which is basically just a bunch of sidequest chores masquerading as main missions.

Yeah I mean I'm enjoying the game but I can't think of many other sequels that have added literally 0 gameplay changes compared to the first game.

I mean there was a big diversion with playable Atreus but who knows how much of that you get in the game. I'm expecting more weapons and new stuff later but the beginning of this game is identical to the first game.

Just give me something to make me feel like I'm playing a different game like new weapon animations or ANYTHING.

For real. I'm hoping to get at least a new weapon, and I would like it to be Mjolnir since it would probably fit with the combat style easy enough.

At this point though that feels like a pipe dream.

I would not describe it as literally zero changes to gameplay. It seems like it at first but it ends up feeling pretty different before long due to what they did change.

I thought I put the difficulty down to No Mercy, but it turns out o was still playing at GMGOW!! No wonder the game felt so hard lol, Im surprised I got through the whole post Alfheim section like that

I'm in such a wierd place with this game.

I'm loving the story. I'm what I assume is what is 75-80% into the game. They're STILL busting out new collectible and sidequests on me, and hub areas, and every single time they do it it drives me away more.

I'm just about at the point where I'm going to start ignoring side paths even when they're right in front of me. It's not like they're necessarily bad, but there, and I'm pretty sure this isn't an exaggeration, at least TWELVE unrelated item collecting sidequests that require you to traverse most of the realms, and that's not including things like Ravens.

That's why I've been ignoring pretty much all sidequests, which isn't something I typically do.

I believe it has improved my enjoyment of the game overall, and aside from my prior complaints it does get a lot better in the back half. There's at least been quite a few cool boss fights which is what the first game sorely lacked.

Holy shit I just got into what I assume is the huge twist scene leading into the climax and holy shit what a fucking scene.

Walking through the post final boss hallway and it's still being like "by the way, here's a new set of sidequests for the world map, maybe do that later since the plot is wrapping up, but don't forget, more bullshit!"

Fuck offfffffffffff.

Game was radical just don't do any side content.

Jesus christ even during the credits, it never ends, it never endssssss!!

I've NEVER been this turned off from exploring a post game by having it shoved down my throat so much.

But the side content in the first game had the game's best boss fight.

AAA games need to cater to the widest audience. That includes unemployed people who have literally hundreds of hours of free time and look at games through a $/hr lens. That doesn't mean that you need to do all the busy work just because it's there. Every AAA game has this "diluted content" problem, so you just gotta get used to skipping 80% of a game's "content".

Im having so much fun with this game. Ive probably got a lot to go still, but it just keeps getting better. I could listen to Mimirs stories all day. Some stuff feels pretty well hidden too or maybe Im just blind. I was in an area with a chest puzzle and couldnt find one of the totems or whatever to throw my axe at anywhere. Backtracking seems like it could take some time since I couldnt seem to access some spots Ive been to before yet, but whatever

I'm not reading anything here yet but I just came in to say that this would have easily been the best video game to come out in years and an easy GotY if the literal greatest video game of all time didn't just come out in the very same year. Fuck the people all over the internet comparing this to Horizon Forbidden West. Pretty sure these people didn't play the game past the first 5 hours.

I've been doing all the sidequests I see and consequently may not be that close to the end, but I'm enjoying it.

And the NPC advice does seem to die down eventually, thank god.

God of War Ragnarok beated. Holy fuck my emotions. What a game.

The review that said this game makes God of War 2018 feel like a prologue was not an overstatement by any stretch of the imagination. This has set the bar for future AAA games and that bar is extremely high.

Now on to post-game and tying up loose ends.

Checking the previous posts now and it is really disappointing to see that people are skipping side quests when this game has some of the best in any video game. So much world-building, huge new areas and epic bosses behind those side quests.

I highly suggest people go back to it if they have been avoiding it.

And why does it game have barely any discussions and activity on the site? Game is brimming with content yet Sonic Frontiers has more discussions than this. It is not even on the Top 10 page on the website when God of War 2018 is. Are not many people playing this or are people still having trouble procuring a PS5?

Literally every non-collectathon favor and even some of the collectathon ones. Vanaheim has a huge open-world area that is only accessible after doing a certain favor that leads to so much content. And that is just one example. As for the bosses. The Berserkers (which even better than GoW 2018's epic Valkyrie fights, the Dragons which are a spectacle to fight with production values matching those of main story bosses.

Top 10 here is of course irrelevant considering Pokemon Scarlet is likely gonna be number one for a couple of months. However it does show which games have the highest activity on the site.

Wow. I'm choking hard against King Berserker. Three times I've died now getting his health down to two bars.

The guy has so much HP and does way too much damage. So this fight requires you to fight a perfect battle for a lengthy period of time. Real Dark Eater Midir kinda endurance battle it is. I've been at it for a while. Might need to take a break

Beat Berserker King by the skin of my teeth and now New Valkyrie Queen is kicking my ass.

Yes I did it. I think Sigrun was harder overall than Gna because the timing window for dodging the Valhalla stomp is much more lenient and it does less damage. And I tried out King Hrolf's relic which really melts her health bar.

Just a few more collectibles and I'm done with 100%.

Honestly I feel like there's not much online discussion because people are still playing the game and don't want any spoilers. It's a big game!

I was 30 hours in and thought I was getting pretty close to the end but then flying boat seems to have opened up some gigantic new areas so maybe not.

Game 100% complete. It literally says so on the screen lol. Ended up getting the platinum as well.

What are you talking about. This game had insane hype leading up to its release and is one of the most anticipated video game sequels considering how GoW 2018 ended on such a cliffhanger with so much world building and mysteries left to uncover.

This game is the talk everywhere amongst my friends, most of whom are not more than casual gamers at best.
